I go to school in Ohio, raised in Detroit. It's the summer, so I'm home in Detroit...

I love Iggy Pop, but between those two albums I'd go with Here Come the Warm Jets.

It's cold, the suburbs lack culture and are extremely segregated, while the city of Detroit is a barren wasteland of dirt and plight. Right now, the economy is in the shitter because of the cutbacks by the Big 3 (I always wondered if that was the Big 3 from your username). I guess it is perhaps the adversity that individuals in this area face that has promoted such a strong musical legacy...

My Big3 is from the White Stripes Big 3, so yeah, by proxy its the same big3. The Stripes have a song called "the big 3 killed my baby" on their first album. I just added in Rain Dogs to show some Tom Waits love, and to make a long-shot stab at how industry has killed those authetic lunatics who used to color our American landscape.

In other news, I love how you escaped a city you paint with such lovely colors for...Ohio. Are you majring in American Studies too?

Final Question: So you're suggesting theres nothing to go there and see?

I know the song I was just listening to that album in the car the other day. However, I don't listen to Waits so the changed words confused me.

Nope, finance. Detroit and Cincinnati aren't really comparable, in my opinion. If you can't distinguish the difference between the two I would suggest you either have not properly visited both cities or there are problems in your head.

I love the Midwest, Detroit just happens to be in a bit more trouble than the rest of the region.

I've heard the Motown recording studios are cool to visit, and I simply love Detroit pizza. I'll take Detroit pizza over New York or Chicago pizza any day. Other than that, come see a hockey game... I don't know? Most of the sports franchises here have hit the shitter...
