In the sense that in the US they aren't nearly as accepted into the rock n' roll canon as Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Boston, Bob Seger, The Who, The Cars, The Clash, The Doors...

They're essentially according to classic rock radio in the US, a two hit woder, and Bolan ought to be up there with Morrison, at least, but he's not. Great call indeed.

Linkin Park.

I don't know how responsible they are for starting the rap/rock movement, but some of the stuff on their albums is really progressive and cool. Like these cool electronic sections. Not to mention they have KILLER AMAZING production. Actually I think they have the fattest sounding most killer bone crushing guitar tone I've ever heard. WAY more bone crushing than anything I've ever heard from earlier bands that used Mesa/boogie rectifiers.

Maybe they shouldn't go 10x platinum. But imo they don't deserve the "totally lame and uncool" status.

Ummmm....

The Def Leppard of our generation? Make of that what you will.

If I see another Story of the Year or Trapt mention, I will punch a baby. Your baby. I will go into the future, punch your baby in front of you, and laugh.
