what kind of music?

id recommend Last.FM. it monitors the music that you listen to and gives you recommendations based on them. it has profile pages of all the artists and you can also download a personal radio to listen to songs Last.FM thinks you'll like.

both myspace and purevolume rely on the bands themselves making a page... the good thing about last.fm is that the bands page is created automatically once someone has listened to them.

any myspace is full of crap unsigned bands... that will never get signed, because theyre crap.

I really like indie sites...ones that show you good bands who arent really that big yet. My favorite is indiebandvault.com.
I have one too, its in my signature. But yeah -- myspace is flooded with some bad music. Good luck sifting though to find the good stuff!
