Hendrix was revolutionary, but I wouldn't say great, his stuff isn't all that tough to play and if you listen to his live stuff it was always full of mistakes.

It was how he changed guitar playing that makes him great, and so what if he made mistakes live. Nobody can play a set of stuff that is not just powerchords w/o making a mistake

mistakes? or imperfections that celebrate an artists creativty, that is to say not a slicked up studio kenny G clone.

You are actualy saying batio is greater than hendrix?, i may be commiting insubordanation here, so ban me if you must, but i strongly oppose that, you are comparing one of the most influencial and important musicians of all time to a guy who has no real significance in the music world, so what if hes more skilled than hendrix?, how does dificulty of playing and technical skill make you greater?, that woud be like saying Stryper are greater than Bob Dylan, theres a big difference between the best and the greatest.

Seems to me you are talking about the best, not the greatest.

Dont get so technical.

and johnny cash was influencial is he one of the greatest guitarists too?

Really if were going by greatest i wouldn't but hendrix up for that he gets so much hype and is way overated.

Overrated he may be, but as far as influence and impact is concerned, no one comes close, nor does anyone come close to him in innovation or importance. IMO he is the greatest, is he the best?, hell no, not even close, there are many better, just none greater, at least thats how i see it.

The primary difference between Cash and Hendrix is, Cash didnt influence guitarists, he influenced songwriters...Hendrix influenced both.

Which is why they are among the greatest guitarists of all time, whats your point? To quote one of my favorite movies of all time.

"What we have here, is failure to communicate."

I think the way you define "greatness" is different from mine, instead of arguing all day its only rational to find the root of our misunderstanding, i define greatness by impact, influence and importance, as well as originality and creativity though they may be too subjective for a "accurate" criteria...Ok, your turn, how do you define greatness?
