^ he can play guitar, but he's not especially talented. And yes I've heard a lot of they're songs, every one from elephant and a few from their old album. Compared to others, page, hendrix, clapton etc. he's nothing. compared to the huge talents in recent times, he's nothing special. He's a hell of a lot better than I am, but compared to really talented guitarists, one word comes to mind: "meh".

There is no "Best Guitarist", all guitarist had their own style, solos, and riffs. No offense, but this is a dumb question. And now you see why companies such as "Rollingstone Magazine" go by influence, record sells, and major impacts. If they did it by skill..it would be impossible.
My Greatest Guitarist (Influences, Impact): 1. Jimi Hendrix - he created the techniques that alot of guitarists today use. If you say Eddie Van Halen is faster and so he is better, will your wrong. Jimi putted more soul into his music and speed doesn't really matter. And he is not an overrated artists, he deserves the spot. If he was still alive, Rap/R&B/Hiphop would be nothing today because he would inspire future black Americans to play Rock N' Roll or Blues. Rock would be like it was during the 60s and 70s. Just like if John Lennon was still alive this world could of been different. Scary. |

James Hetfield, Voted number 2 metal guitarist of all time with hits like my fav Creeping Death. I know Metallica may be a little over rated at times but James is my fav guitar player of al time/Song writer. Dave Mustaine close behind.

back to the topic, someone said that you can't really decide on the "best guitarist" beacuse everyone has their own style, and I completely agree. Judging a musicians skill is in large part based on personal preferance. However, that is not to say that it is impossible to differentiate between the truly skilled musicians, and the mediocre ones.

Im not sure about best guitarist but i would recommend checking out Muse. Matt bellamy has some mad riffs and seems to really get a hell of alot out of his guitar. Innovative player. And im sorry amy, but jack white aint in the league of alot of others mentioned. (that was a lie, im not taht sorry but what ya gonna do?)
