Done better?? Well I dunno about that No Doubts making alot of cash actually. I know what you mean he could have contributed to music in a less mainstream way or something but hes doing great for himself and we dont really have the right to say what he should do. As long as hes happy.

The Official Best Guitarist Thread
Ok, so most of you will prob say Jimi Hendrix. Which is prob true, he was a great guitarist. But he was prob the most INFLUENTIAL guitarist.
What i am asking is who is the BEST guitarist? I would have to say that Dimebag Darrel (ex PanterA) would beat this hands down. Christ he knows how to play! Pinch haronics everywhere. The shear speed at which he plays is incredible. He defn gets my vote! |

yeah great band-the pace is awsome of dimebag. i love phils scream too. but can you really go past the top three:
jimmy page carlos santana eric clapton they made music IMO. without them it wouold not be what it is today. i mean, what did led zep do for music? they are unbelievable, santana is still an awsome guitarist, and what needs to be said about clapton? then theres the local day talent...aka teppei teranishi from thrice. **** he can play

for classic rock, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa and Jimmy Page are the best for me.
present day would be Trey Azagthoth, Fredrik Thordendal and Jus Osbourne. there are still many more, though... |

Ladies and gentlemen, i give you...
Nice, nice, a lot of good guitarists there.... I would like to add to the "list" one John Petrucci. Listen to the song Glass Prison, by dream theater. Seriously, please. This song scared the living crap out of me with the guitar solos, just freakin' incredible.

Jimmy Page for me is the most versatile player. He was able to mix and match styles unlike anyone I've ever heard, all within the confines of the same album, even at times within the same song.
Working today I don't think people realise how good a guitar player Jack White is until they see him live. |

Past guitarists.. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix re-invented the way people play guitars.
Present guitarists.. John Frusciante, his stuff is not always the most complex or technical but there is a certain way his arrangements come together that just sounds incredible to me, especially his solo work. And Omar Rodriguez, that guy must be on crack when he writes his guitar work for The Mars Volta. Even if you listen to his work with At The Drive In, its incredible. He's also coming out with a solo album. (I also think Jack White is deverse wayyy more respect than he gets)

Yngwie Malmsteen
Joe Satriani Steve Vai Jesper Stromblad - In Flames (my personal fav his solo's are amazing) Eddie Van Halen - Van Halen Teppie Tereshini - Thrice (however you spell it) Daniel Jacobs - Atreyu (every song is really good) Those are my favorites.
