And WTF is he doing below Kurt Cobain on Rolling Stones "Best Guitarists" list? Does the fact that lots of people like him mean that he is boring and watered down? I like to think that there are many people in the world who are just as intelligent as me, many who are more so. I don't think that popular appeal has anything whatsoever to do with how good a guitar player you are. |

i'm sure if he was a blues purist, he wouldn't really have caught on the way he has |

I'm not a woman but if I was....
Buckethead, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen, Robert Fripp, David Gilmour, and Jimmy Page are my favourites.
Out of those 7 my favorite is Buckethead. He has more sensuality and soul in his music than most of the other ones, though David Gilmour and Jimmy Page are pretty close.

What an EVIL man he must be, allowing the PROLES and the PEASANTS to have an opportunity to experience the blues. I'm sure sophisticated types such as you and I would never give those commoners such a chance. They belong as "garbage men" and stable cleaners on our country estates. Blues is strictly only for people with an IQ of over 150, and people who make music everyone can like are no longer fit for considering as "blues purists".

just saying blues in its pure form, won't really catch on in this day and age it was in his heyday in the 50s edit:- and, uh yeah, I'd rather listen to the blues played by a homeless man with a tincan round his neck for collecting coins, sitting in a corner playing a guitar with cheesewire strings than some millionaire in a mansion, in a chaffeur-driven Rolls Royce |

To be honest, I don't care how "pure" people think it is. I just want to hear good music. And Clapton provides that for thousands of people. At the end of the day, if you offer me a choice between "millionaire" Clapton, who I genuinely love the sound of, and "pure" blues which seems to be what is "right" to listen to, I am going to go with what I honestly enjoy more, which is Clapton, B.B. King and (to a very limited extent) Led Zeppelin, who, despite being popular have provided me with more enjoyable music than whoever "pure blues" seems to come from. And yes, I would probably give the cheesewire busker some money, but I am not going to record him with my camera, rave about him to my friends and follow him around everywhere.

well, Clapton to me is pretty thin on talent, he needs people to bolster him up, like Bruce and Baker (i love Cream, BTW) or Duane Allman
B.B. King is great, i don't care how rich he is the busker i'm referring to is Blind Lemon Jefferson, and he's a highly-esteemed blues figure |

Blind Lemon Jefferson!!! Now that is great stuff.
Black Snake Moan - Blind Lemon Jefferson - YouTube Enjoy. Although I don't think that he uses cheesewire. He's like a true pro, man. And I do think that Clapton has "just a few" pals around him when he performs.... Eric Clapton - Layla - YouTube This is one of my absolute favourite ever videos. The song isn't that hard to play (it still took me about three weeks of practice to get it all right), but you can't deny the FEELING. |

Layla exemplifies one of the points i was making, Duane Allman was around a lot at that time and in Derek & The Dominoes - and Duane himself said when he heard Clapton playing slide - "well, he sure ain't Duane Allman" most of Clapton's solo stuff I find rather weak |
