I downloaded a couple of the albums and he's fantastic! I like his more vaudeville sounding tracks.

Few people stay so brilliant for so many years.

Or continue to evolve and stay relevant while avoiding becoming a media whore.

And avoid becoming a media whore he has. I've never seen someone go after a company so aggressively as when some idiot uses his music in a TV commercial. I think that was the first point of respect I had for him, and is actually what convinced me to check him out a bit further. I have a similar distaste in ads, and I am always a bit depressed when a band I like allows their music to be used in one.

Tom Waits has gotten by, in my opinion, on shear talent and will. He isn't everyone's cup of tea and he knows it, but he doesn't change for anyone.

For example?

I think I agree, but I don't know exactly what you mean.

Finally gotten to grips with him by getting into Closing Time. Looks like I'll get to enjoy the other 7 albums of his on my hard drive.
It feels like I'm in for a treat.

Took me a while to get used to his voice, but when I did, it was all smooth sailing. Sorry Scarlett Johanson, you can't compare.

She, being an artist of the eyes, attempted to cross over to the ears.
