If you remember correctly, or even take a look back - Nirvana Pandemonium had started to die down significantly before Cobain pulled the ole trigger. Grunge was starting to pass - and I don't think Nirvana could have lasted by staying in Grunge. They would have had to switch around their style or adapt it... which isn't bad... but could they have done it?

that last song they published recently rocked, and could easily be fitted into alternative rock nowdays....so yes, they would have made some great music....but alas, it was not meant to be....

It would have been interesting to see whether or not Kurt Cobain evolved as a songwriter as he grew older and, hopefully, a bit wiser. Would he have mellowed a bit? Or perhaps become even more jaded? We'll never know.

I enjoyed a few of Nirvana songs. They were a bit past my musical prime. I'll tell you, though, when he died, it really rocked my youngest brother. Like them or not, Nirvana struck a chord deep inside a sizeable chunk of the teens of that era.

When Nirvana came along, the late 80's were petering out, musically. Dance music was subsiding from the radio, the mascara and big hair was gone, (well, just about gone).

Nirvana was like the Beatles 25 years before. Came along at a lull in music, and set the example for thousands of garage bands who, up until then, were probably stuck playing Duran Duran at house parties.

They broke up the monotony, same as the Beatles.

Now you done it, a bunch of elitist classic rock junkies will be coming your way, going crazy because you compared Nirvana to "Insert some band before 1979 here".

jr. 04-05-2006 09:03 PM

That's OK. They're entitled to their opinion.

That is so wrong in so many ways. "lol".

jr. 04-05-2006 09:37 PM

To head everyone off at the pass, I'm not comparing the bands, just the situations into which they arrived on the music scene.

hiu 04-05-2006 09:42 PM

I don't care about you comparing the two bands as they are both sh'it bands but the latter part. Nirvana didn't come along at a lull in music, they took the oportunity to take the sound The Wipers were doing for years and adapt it so it would oppeal to the populous. I also disagree with the garage bands comment but don't really want to get into that.

I've never heard of The Wipers, so your view may be right. My interest in grunge was mild, at best.

Maybe lull wasn't the right word. More like, a transitional period. Rap was gaining steam, and was beginning to show up in some melded version of metal. Pop, metal and rap were all sort of intertwining, so nobody really knew just what they were lisening to.

Nirvana was a clear cut change from what was on the radio.

Perhaps The Wipers needed better promotion.

jibber 04-05-2006 11:11 PM

so, what if beetoven wasn't deaf, i bet he woulda made ifferent music, or mayber, he wuldn't have made any music at all, maybe, being deaf prevented him from gettig with the ladies, so he turned to piano instead

something to think about

I heard The Wipers, good band, but its easy to take alway all of Nirvanas credit and give it to their influences, even when they clearly dont deserve it.

Lets give The Beatles no credit for the british invasian whatsoever, lets just give all the credit to Buddy Holly and The Everly Brothers...Those talentless teeny boppers dont deserve credit for anything.

God people piss me off.

I see your point. But imagine if Cobain didn't become a legend because he killed himself - would that song really be as popular as it was? I think people were just so excited for a Nirvana song to be released post mortem that they would have like just about anything that was never released, just because "it's f*cking Nirvana." I like Nirvana just as much as the next guy, but they were about to slide down that slippery slope of - oh yeah, I guess they did help change music... what was their name again? They became legends after the death of Cobain... while they were still popular while he was alive... no way that would have made the mark they have now if the man didn't off himself. Took balls, though. Shotguns are messy.

Too bad Razors is one of the few here who has a diverse appreciation for music.

He certainly dosent show it.

Big3 and Urban have pretty diverse tastes in music, but they also use common sense in their arguements and dont make posts that seem to be made by a 8 year old.

Oh and Hiu, that comment you made about my mother before editing it right away is a real sign of maturity.

Personally I'm one not to judge a persons maturity by internet message board posts, I don't know maybe i'm wrong.

Arguing with posters tounge and cheek comments screams maturity on your behalf also.

Well, you got a permanent ban, only to start a new username, so that might provide a little evidence that your presence is bad news.

MURDER JUNKIE 04-06-2006 02:22 AM

I would really like an elaboration on what he was banned for.

For no other reason than morbid curiousity and to establish where the bar is set.

hiu 04-06-2006 02:27 AM

I like to have a little fun with my internet sometimes, maybe I made a few threads that were "off topic".

I am sorry for my incidents in the past and have clearly changed my ways for the good.

MURDER JUNKIE 04-06-2006 02:30 AM

which threads??

I dont know exactly why he was banned, but i can say that i predicted it would happen.

Regardless, hes being pretty hypocritical.

Changing the subject (Sorry Booboo) What if Don was brutally murdered in cold blood in his own home?

actually, i'm not some devout worshiper of Cobain, i only really like Nevermind, but that song ( can't remember it's name ) was really good. it would have been interesting. i think they would have done something like pearl jam, hit and miss records...and Nirvana was popular before he offed himself. granted, they would not have become legends if he didn't but i doubt their popularity grew after his suicide, pleanty of singers kill themselves and they don't become more popular just because of that...

True.

INXS arent anywhere near popular as Nirvana, for example.

I have heard several stories about plans Cobain had for a 4th studio album, that he was planning on expanding the ensemble, and adding horn instruments, hard to imagine how that would have turned out.

INXS.

Where they picked a new singer, JD Fortune I think his name was.
