Default The Greatest Of All....

we've got all these competative threads arguing what musicians and groups are better, best band of the century, brits vs yanks, best solo and so on, so ok, lets tackle the big kahuna, in your opinion, the greatest band/ artist of all time and give a reasonable arguement as to why. this is an extremely tricky question to answer but overall everyone has a favourite. and there's reasoning behind it, so shoot...

hopefully this will lay waste to the 300 'best whatever' threads that clutter up the general music board, it gets bored answering each one, really...

Well what is the greatest band/musician in your opinion?

You didn't even answer the question of your own thread.

Maybe you already have an opinion of the greatest band/musician formed in your mind. Therefore when someone posts their opinion you can attack them with all of your "psychodelic monk skills" and they'll crumble under your vast knowledge of music. In result you are amused at their ignorance and the fact that they probably feel like a stupid shit.

Coming from an orchestral point of view, I'd rather play Bach. He basically created modern music theory. And he developed charts and systems for keys, chords and all sorts of crazy musical stickler crap.

But then again, Beethoven was like the first rock star in a sense. Anyone ever seen Immortal Beloved?

Mmm, not really, when it comes to classical its always subjective, but the Notorious M.O.Z. is usually grand king of composition.

I'm a Brahms fan myself, actually.

However, this is the one time where I don't feel I need to back my opinion up. His accomplishments speak for themselves. Beethoven, Mahler, and Tchaikovsky worshipped Mozart and several of their pieces were in tribute to his works. It is said that Mahler died and the last word he said was Mozart. To command that sort of respect and honor from such greats cements my vote.

I would have a hard time deciding between Bach and Mozart though... it would have to come down between the pieces I enjoyed most... Bach is great, but I do love my Wolfgang!
