subliminal messaging.
britney spears - hit me baby one more time
"im not too young for sex" - when played backwards. led zepplin - stairway to heaven mentions some stuff bout the devil - when played backwards. queen - another one bites the dust. "smoke marajuana" - when played backwards. these are 3 i've heard of, dont know if they're true, spotted/ heard of any other subliminal messaging present in famous songs, do tell... |
Yeah see I'm not still affected.
When you play Another One Bites the Dust backwards it sounds like "It's fun to smoke marijuana." That's kind of funny. I'm sure most of it is just power of suggestion, though. Although it wouldn't be that hard to put subliminal messages in lyrics... |
cradle of filths--has he lords prayer when you play a song backwards
|
Dont know about newer songs, but the Beatles, especially after the drugs, had a few. "Help" had "Now he uses Marijuana". Then Harrison, McCartney, Ringo and Lennon went on to do solo songs with some backward masking in it later in their careers. Lennon's "here somes the sun" has something in it, somebody might wanna figure that out. And I'll have to check out that Cradle song. I never knew that, and I love those guys! I'm sure Marilyn Manson has something in his music as well. Some of those songs are waaay too catchy.

whenever i listen to a song that supposedly had backwards messages, i listen to the backward part by itself without looking at the message. some people actually try to listen for the messages, and are just creating it in their mind i guess.

this is like the people who find a picture of jesus on their toast. I mean... that lump of brown crap looks nothing like jesus!! (not that anyone knows in the first place of course... but that's beside the point!)
|
Ahah.
The funniest one Ive heard was the Yoko Ono one. You play it backwards , and you hear "Hyoi Haht Hahn Hnnnun." Which obviously says "I shot John Lennon" ..'Tards. |

"They say that if you play some rock records backwards, there's Satanic messages in them. Let me tell you something, if you're sitting at home listening to your rock records backwards, you are Satan." - Bill Hicks |
Even if you purposely put backwards messages in there, it's pretty hard to understand them when you listen to it backwards.
I'm sure at least a couple bands have done it purposely. |

if it sounds coherent forwards, it doesn't make sense backwards unless its a palindrome, in which case its the same.
This backwards are things you're looking for. |

Well, some words sound like other words when said backwards. Sometimes mentioned, "Not this" can sound like "siton(satan)" backwards. This is just an example. I hope this doesnt make me sound stupid, but backward masking can be used in music and speeches to get a messege subconsciously to the audience. Its been tested. I'm not like a conspiracy theorist or anything though. |
Backward masking (if im readin this correctly) would mean that the message would only make sense when the record was played backwards. So the message is incoherent when played normally, and thus, useless.

I don't know... I've tried it before and come out with some lyrics that weren't completely incoherent. |

|
I hate things like this theyre scary
|
Am I the only one who listens to CD's forewards only?
|
i listen to them the right way
ok what about that whole thing about the Judist Priest song Better By You Better Than Me, with the whole message of "do it" ive listened to it over and over to try to find it and cant hear shit. has anyone actauly truely heard these messages clear and very easy to understand? |
Wasn't there a song on the first Stone Roses album where they'd reversed the recording of another song on the album, listened to the vocals backwards, written words that sounded like those backwards vocals and then re-recorded the vocals with the new lyrics it generated?
Do you think that achieves a similar effect to backwards masking? |
I think it's a complete waste of your time to look for these things. If artists put subliminal messages in their music, they would announce it for some good ól publicity. So people would buy their cd and look for it.
Putting a message in, hoping some person without a hobby will play it backwards, and hear it, is useless. I can't imagine anyone doing this on purpose. |
I don't think there's anything wrong with putting it into the music in the first place. If you're bored, have a lot of studio time and wanted to arse around then it seems like a pretty good way to mess around with a track without really risking ****ing it up.
People who actually go and look for subliminal messages, however, are very, very sad. I'd have to disagree with you Alo when you say that nobody would look for backwards messages on purpose. The fact that there are so many rumours about subliminal things suggests that there are a number of people who do spend time looking for those messages. ****ing weirdos. |
Now I bet 99% of you people will go out and try to listen to your tracks backwards and see if you hear anything, yea???
|
Well, we've listened to them forwards enough times already. I'm going to listen to them backwards, then sideways, then upside down, then turned up to full volume, then on mute. Its the only way to fully appreciate the music. Any less and you're just being a superficial cog.

britney spears - hit me baby one more time
there was a video of this on ebaumsworld.com where if you play it backwards it says "please sleep with me tonight" or something of the sort |
^That was a joke......it was on ebaumsworld.com.
|
we could field test it and find out anyway, i've always been told it was true.
|
I guess we could, I always assumed it was a joke because its britney spears.
I think the message was "sleep with me, I'm not too young" It sounds like a joke. |
Some bands leave backmasked messages in their songs as a joke.
