What are some of your favorite female lead vocalists?

My Favorites are: Ani Difranco, Sandy Dillon, Carla Bozulich, Chan Marshall (Cat Power), Patti Smith and Victoria Williams

Um let's see...Grace Slick, the singer for the Cranberries, the singer for Garbage think her name is Shirley Manson and Lisa Loeb.

my bf just bought me a CD, I'm pretty sure her name is Melissa Auf Der Maur, or something like that. I heard she was the bassist for smashing pumpkins for a while (could be wrong on that though), but anyways, she's a really amazing bassist, and a really talented guitarist, and I love her voice. on all of the tracks on the CD she does the vocals, bass, guitar, and just has people come in to do backup guitar or keyboards.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm a tough one i would probebly say Nina simone or something but there probebly is better one out there

Cat Power, PJ Harvey, Kim Deal, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, and my ex-girlfriend Sarah. She has a stunning voice.

oh most definitely aretha,beyonce,alicia keys..erm..that pretty much sums it up.

Most likely Kim Deal is my favorite female vocalist of all time (granted that opinion could easily change). There just has never been such a more angelic voice I have ever heard. Grace Slick would be my runner up. Deborah Harry, Beth Gibbons & Aretha Franklin are also pretty high up on my list.

for me, janis is always best. i like her husky emotional voice. grace slick is also my favorite.i like their way of dont sing being like "sexy" or "strong" "cute" women, if you know what i mean

I never knew Frank Sinatra was a woman!

My favourites are Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald. My girlfriend played me some Alison Krauss recently - that was good. Also KT Tunstall, PJ Harvey, Janis Joplin, Lauren Hill and Frank Sinatra. I really like Amy Lee's voice too, but the rest of Evanescence let her down!

I like Tegan and Sara but I wouldn't say they are great vocally. Amanda Rogers has a pleasant voice, but I haven't heard enough to put her up there as a great vocalist. On outright vocal ability I'd have to say LeAnn Rimes, but some of my favourites are:
