You have to understand British culture.Until very recently Britain only had one national pop/rock radio station and 4 TV channels.Most of them owned by the BBC. The BBC used to have a mandate saying on radio that they had to play a certain amount of live music on air. Obviously the way that worked was you`d get reletively new bands to fill this.So that meant that new bands were always getting prime time exposure. It also meant that unlike the U.S. you didn`t have seperate stations for rock music , for soul , for hip hop etc etc.You had to make do with just the one.As a result British artists have grown up experiencing that and being exposed to different music and I think thats always shown in the music played by British artists. |
