Hell no, if you want a golden year in British music the last one was back in 1997 for me with Radiohead- Ok Computer, The Verve- Urban Hymns and Blur- Blur.
All the major players now are overhyped and overpopular and this 'nu indie' wave as I have heard it described is just pop with guitars for me. I still think there are good British bands around like Editors, Bloc Party and The Coral but I don't see them making the 'Brit Awards'. |

yeah, I think so too. They usually don't even have guitar solos either. |

the bands you've mentioned do not represent this new golden age in british music. its always a particular genre that booms and becomes the new "golden age"..the 60s brought psychedelia, the 70's punk, the 80s im not totally certain, and the 90s britpop. i think this decade will be remembered for its "nu-indie" boom, bands such as the libertines, bloc party, arctic monkeys, the futureheads, franz ferdinand etc. Of course that isnt everybodies cup of tea, and its hardly ground breaking in terms of originality, but its been the "in-thing" for a couple of years now... and emo is more of a stateside phenomenon in terms of the actual bands arising. i just cant see anything else surfacing and i think this new indie scene will only develop for a couple more years before peetering away. but hey, i like it so im not complaining.

Well it`s not really the indie scene i`m on about this time.
These are the artists that the media & the industry are saying are the new hope as far as Britiish music goes that will go on to conquer the world blah blah blah. I think it`s a crock of sh*t myself , half of them will be gone in a couple of years. |
oh i see. in that case, i agree, tthe artists being hyped in the media (bar the arctic monkeys:finger: ) will all be destroyed by whats made them. though i think the gorillaz generally have the creative pinache to be a long term success.

Yeah don't piss on Jack Johnson, he makes laid back surf music, but he's no brittish, I was suprised that you had him in there.
And I will forever hate the arctic moneys for writing "I bet you'd look good on the dancefloor, I don't know if you're looking for romance or, I don't know what your looking for." Thats the worst grammar ever and you aren't doing it off the cuff, both dancing and the arctic monkeys rhyme scheme sucks. |
I'd honestly like to feel the vibe in the london streets today, but alas, povertiy says no.
I can't imagine anyone with a clue that isn't pushing something thinks this is a golden era. |
