I saw Weird Al by accident many years ago.
I bought tickets to see the Violent Femmes, marked the date on my calendar and when the day of the show came up, I went to the venue with a friend. We gave the doorman our tickets, he looked at them, tore the stub off each one (this was before tickets were scanned) and we went inside. As we were walking to the bar, a band started playing on the stage and my friend said "that looks like Weird Al on stage." At first I thought he was the opening act, but it seemed odd that he would've been paired with the Violent Femmes. My friend looked at his ticket, laughed, and said "check your ticket" so I did and noticed the date of the Violent Femmes show was for the previous day. I had marked the wrong date on my calendar and somehow the doorman hadn't looked at the info printed on either of our tickets and we wound up getting into the wrong show the following evening. |

The band was very good, Weird Al was his usual self (I thought he bore a bit of a physical resemblance to Tiny Tim). The music sort of reminded me of They Might Be Giants. There was a good amount of performance art/theatrics running throughout the show. His Kurt Cobain impersonation was my favorite of the evening.
I think it was 1998 or 99 when I saw him. |

Going to be seeing Santana, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, the London Philharmonic, Marcus Miller, and a few others at the Hollywood Bowl in August.
