I wasn't too impressed with a lot of the stuff my buddy had been playing the few days before, so I was going in to it with a kind of negative feeling, but came out pumped. I know 'live' is usually, if not mostly better when it's done right, but the musicianship of these people is just insane. I might try some of this myself. At least what the guitars/drums/bass were doing. Some sort of facsimile of it. When I heal up. It's gonna be a while.

Went to see the Chicago Six last night. 3 of the '85 Chicago Bears up on stage making their noise (Dan Hampton, Steve "Mongo" McMichael, and Otis Wilson). It was kind of last minute since the GF's brother had a VIP invitation (he's been a Chicago Bears season ticket holder for as long as I've known him), and he was able to bring 10 people with him. It was at 115 Bourbon Street, which is a place I've heard about, but never been to. Holy Mother of all Bars! This place was huge. 2 concert venue rooms, an outdoor area w/another stage, and 2 separate ballroom areas. I lost count of how many separate bars there were. The best thing about it all, was the fact that EVERYTHING was FREE!
Valet Parking = Free Cover Charge = Free Food = Free Drinks = Free It was their 15 year anniversary, and it was the owners way of saying thank you to his customers. The place is a gold mine, so I estimated a cost of more than likely +/- 1M total to put this thing together, which after talking to some of the employees, isn't too big of a stretch for him. Snapped a pic of the GF and Dan Hampton. Her makeup was a bit off that day:

Not a concert-concert necessarily, but probably goin to this tomorrow and the bf's band, along with probably a dozen others, will be playing. Car buffs the world over know!
Spoiler for A few cars from Dream Cruises of the Past:

Went to see Neutral Milk Hotel last night in Edinburgh.
Very energetic and powerful performance. Played a mixture of songs from Avery Island and ITAOTS as well as a couple B-sides including Engine, which they finished on. Guy with the saw sits front and center and looks like he's 15 years younger than the rest of the band. The horn player looks like Santa Claus and Jeff Mangum looks like Forest Gump did when he went running for 2 years. They still sound as good as they did on their original albums though. Very passionate and emotionally driven, especially on Two Headed Boy Part II which Jeff performed on his own as the rest of the band left the stage. Support act was one of the guys from Frightened Rabbit. He was sh*t. A lot of beards and glasses in the crowd, but a very enthusiastic and lively audience. Don't think I've ever sweated more at a concert. Great set, and would definitely recommend catching them, as they have a reputation as one of the best live acts, if you ever get the chance. |
