I found out Dimmu Borgir is playing in town the day after Thanksgiving so I'm definitely going to that. Enslaved is also touring with them so it'll be a chance to see them, a feat none of my other metalhead friends can claim ownership to. While I'm not the biggest Dimmu Borgir fan it's not often a decent metal band comes to Reno, usually we just get washed up post-grunge acts or annoying metalcore bands, so any chance to see some real Scandinavian metal is one to take.

Melvins come like twice every year so seeing them is pretty easier, but for most shows you have to travel to Sacramento or San Francisco for some of the bigger ones.
A lot of the older bands like to come, I know Possessed came not too long ago and are coming back in November and Deicide also came last year around the same time as In Flames, but other than that it's a cavalcade of mediocrity. |

I just got back from the Swans show and the verdict is in: it was fucking fantastic! Almost everything they played was their older, louder stuff, and though I've always preferred their later work, seeing the old stuff live gave me a whole new appreciation for it. In person it sounds like a goddamn freight train. Also, I never really noticed before but it's surprisingly groove-based. You really get locked in watching it being performed.
