Oh Wow! Im glad you pointed that out Jedey. Since you've mentioned it, Areosmith did actually do a lot of different covers.

Thanks for the info.

My personal favourites have to be Bob Dylan, Alex Turner, Immortal Technique and the Lennon/McCartney duo. I also feel Thom Yorke, Ian Curtis, Morrissey and Nick Cave deserve a spot on my best list. There are several others, but these ones are the ones I'm most familiar with.

As far as worst go, I'm sure you can't beat a lot of the trash that keeps coming up in the charts these days.

I've never really paid that much attention to the lyrics but they are definitely not the worst, it's not really what he sings but the way he sings them.
Well take it up with iTunes. This is the same music industry that gave David Gray a "best new artist" award for his 8th album.

No they are pretty ****ing bad, theres no way to sing "that's when friends were nice, to think of them just makes you feel nice" to make it less ****ty.

Best - Martyn Jaques from Tiger Lillies ("Murder is Easy, Murder is fun, it's better then sex, because I always come" YES!!!!)

Worst - ANYTHING early metal. Metallica isn't the worst but Whiplash is up there with lines like "It kicks your ass, kick your face"... **** it, the whole song is hilarious lyrically:

Quote:
Late at night all systems go
You have come to see the show
We do our best You're the rest
You make it real you know
There is a feeling deep inside
That drives you ****in' mad
A feeling of a hammerhead
You need it oh so bad

Adrenaline starts to flow
You're thrashing all around
Acting like a maniac
Whiplash

Bang your head against the stage
Like you never did before
Make it ring Make it bleed
Make it really sore
In a frenzied madness
with your leather and your spikes
Heads are bobbing all around
It's hot as Hell tonight

Adrenaline starts to flow
You're thrashing all around
Acting like a maniac
Whiplash

Here on the stage the Marshall noise
is piercing through your ears
It kicks your ass kick your face
Exploding feeling nears
Now is the time to let it rip
To let it ****in' loose
We're gathered here to be with you
Cause this is what we choose

Adrenaline starts to flow
You're thrashing all around
Acting like a maniac

here we go

(guitar solo)

WHIPLASH!!!

(guitar solo)

The show is through the metal is gone
It is time to hit the road
Another town Another gig
Again we will explode
Hotel rooms and motorways
Life out here is raw
But we will never stop
We will never quit
cause we're Metallica

Adrenaline starts to flow
You're thrashing all around
Acting like a maniac

Terence Hill, as recently confirmed during an interview to an Italian TV talk-show, was offered the role but rejected it because he considered it "too violent". Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.
Al Pacino = God

I actually like that song for some reason.

Toby Driver's lyrics are beautiful. I was going through the lyrics for the album dowsing anemone with copper tongue and I was fairly impressed.

Well, I`m happy that someone is enjoying that song, Dayvan.
I`ve never heard of Toby Driver, but that is a wonderful album title !

Here`s a clip that I enjoy watching, although the lyrics aren`t exactly great poetry. ( Don`t miss the guy`s little puppet walk at 00:57) :

Syd`s lyrics are often a bit weak and inexplicable, it`s true, but then sometimes he comes up with images or lines like nobody else. I put him in my list of inspired lyricists for lines like these :

Quote:
And you`re rocking me backwards and you`re rocking towards
The red and yellow mane of a stallion horse.
-
Lime and limpid green, a second scene, the fight between the blue you once knew
Floating down, the sound resounds around the icy waters underground.
-
You and I in place, wasting time on dominoes.
A day so dark, so warm; life that comes to no harm.
You and I and dominoes - time goes by.

Lyrics: Immortal Technique, the man can't be topped.
Outwith rap music, I'd say either Bob Marley or Manic Street Preachers.

Worst? Well, I'd love to point the finger at people like Louis Walsh who produce awful pop music, but of legit artists, I've always thought AC/DC's lyrics were pretty bad.
