The Recommend Urban A Song Thread
Ove the past year or so I`ve not really had chance to listen to much new music. Most of the year i`ve been distracted with other things & interest & my love of new music has suffered as a result. And just looking at the top 50 of 2005 thread has made me realise just how out of the loop i`ve been.
So i`ve decided that with a Christmas bonus burning a hole in my pocket i`m going to go out & buy 10 albums all of new(ish) bands that I don`t own anything of.So if you would be so kind as to post a song off one of your favourite albums of 2005 (No long lists just one will do) i`ll check it out & eventually try & fill in the blanks of this list of 10 albums. P.S , No metal , punk or whiney scenester bands , but anything else is fine. |
1. michael buble
2. red light music |
Does it have to be 2005?
|
Sufjan Stevens- Illinois easily is one though

Yeah I might have to check that one out i`m hearing it a lot. My only sticking point is a lot of people who`s taste in music I hate are saying it`s good.
But i`ve got an open mind i`ll judge it on it`s own merits |
My morning Jacket - Wonderful Man (alt)
Devendra Banhart - ANything from Cripple Crow (folk) White Stripes - Denial Twist (funk) That all for now, I just ask you listen to any song all the way through before casting judgement. |
Arc of Time- Bright Eyes
Tear You Apart- She Wants Revenge Bom Bom Bom- Living Things I like all of them, you might. It is a slim chance but you might like them Urban. |
Do those even count?? If not scene bands then certainly whiny.
She wants revenge is a rip off of Interpol, and Living Things maybe its me but their so affected is disgusting. I can see them posturing and posing while they sing I want to punch them in their edward scissor-hands fashion stealing throats. |
Here's a New Zealand band that I really like:
Pluto - Pipeline Under The Ocean. That's if you can get it there, otherwise just order it. |
Accolade II - Symphony X

And Devendra Banhart really bores me, but I've only heard one of his albums and I can't remember which. Some of my picks from lesser known bands... "The Art Of Everyday Communication Part 1" - The Light Footwork "Good Grief" - Nedelle "Pangea" - Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin "Spy vs. Spy" - The Spinto Band "I Saw The Sky In The North Open To The Ground And Fire Poured Out" - Red Sparowes |
Yeah she wants revenge's vocalist sings that way on purpose, it's not how he sings. And that song is poorly written.
I think its common knowledge Interpol pulled from Joy Division. Some said too much. Some had not heard She wants revenge. And if you havn't heard cripple crow, or don't know if you've heard it then why point that out. At least we both knew what we were talking about with SWR. Edit; The Information - A simple plan, I love the womans voice in the refrain. |
Gov't Mule - Deja Voodoo

why do you wanna listen to new music, do you like it, or are you just interested?
|
Because I like listening to new original stuff but not had much chance to over the past year or so , so lots of good new bands on small labels that I would normally pick up on slipped under my radar.

INTERPOL SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE JOY DIVISION!!!!!!!!!! |

I said i`ve not had much chance , not no chance at all

well you`re mistaken then , i very rarely comment on bands i`ve not heard

Kidding, kidding. The reason I said more than Interpol is because I agree that they don't sound like a carbon copy of them the way some people say, but Interpol are definitely influenced by Post-Punk bands. |
