MPA banning tabs
As most of you probably already know, the MPA (Music Publishing Association) is holding all forms of unauthorized tablature as copyright infringement against the bands who wrote the songs being tabbed. This has led to many music tab sites and forums to be shut down. The MPA thinks that this will help bring money back to the music industry through people having to buy official sheet music. What a joke! If they wanted to bring money back to the music industry they should go after the free music download sites. Tabs allow so many people to learn how to play guitar and bass. Don't they see that when people can learn to play their favorite band's songs that it promotes the music so that if the band comes out with more albums then the fans will buy them? By banning tabs all they're going to do is to piss off the fans that are already pissed off against the system. That'll lead to weaker fan bases and will probably also lead to a decrease in album sales. So what are they thinking? I personally think that if the MPA was smart they'd be advocates for correct tabbing of songs, and not try to ban tabs. But that's only me....
what are your opinions? |
The artists are getting credit does it even matter? They're being lame and greedy.

I hope they die.

no they should concentrae on putting out QUALITY products such as good, full albums and such perahps this would be a good start..
I mean or if they really wnt to get rificulous about it then they should ban cover songs, "tribute" bands, albums and stuff like that too because then the tribute band gets part of the money too oh geeze where will it all end.. |
Greed is an ugly monster. We need some people to constantly send tab around the internet, and just make them insane like gnutella once did.
|
its petty, i mean, like the music industry doesnt bring in enough already. what are tabs going to do....put a little less in their pocket every month?
whats even more ridiculous is that most tabs on the internet arent even exact. most of them are interperetations of the songs. |

god.....mxtabs.net got shut down.........fuckers...

www.olga.net also has some good stuff. theyre usually pretty accurate and decent.
|
I definately agree that the music download sites should be shutdown. And file sharing programs should be shutdown as well. Tabs are a great way to learn how to play and there are gifted musicians who would just keep on tabbing anyway despite being closed down

Do you havnt any idea how much it actually costs to make that CD? |
Well then wouldn't it be better to download music for a price? If you were a new and upcoming artist would you not want financial security knowing that you can spend the rest of your life making music? I know I would, and that can only happen if people are buying your album not downloading it
|
or how abotu instead, checking it out by downloading, then if you relly really liek it then go ahead and buy it then you'll not feel as if your money's wasted and you'll already know you like it, AND supporting the band..
I am defintiely pro-downloading, BUT at the same tiem I can see the other concerns, as well but one gets to feel both disillusioned nd cheapened when the pay upwards of #20 for a CD of mostly crap, or all crap |

little off topic but i was just wondering, im sure there's another tab site like powertabs, one that plays the tabs out for you, something like guitar workshop, my old rythm guitar used it, pretty much the same as powertabs, anyone know where i can find it or if its been shut down? cause ultimateguitartabs is bringing me no joy.
