End Of An EraR
So like, a little birdy told me that soonish CD's are going to be a thing of the past. All this bitching from the music companies is going to be worthless. Basically, mp3s will take over.
What do you think about this? Are you going to miss buying CDs? I sure am. I love the feeling of seeing the album + artwork, as well as the music. But I suppose I could live without them...*cries*

I remember this same situation when vinyl changed to cd's.
People said cd's would never replace vinyl, that it would never happen. It did and along with the disappearence of vinyl went the traditional album sleeve artwork. mp3's will replace cd's, which in turn probably be replaced in time by another format. |

I laughed at my grandad the other day, he was saying "oh yeah, mp4's are gonna be takin over soon I hear". I was like, "Erm, its mp3, grandad" and then it turned out he was right all along. I felt well stupid.
Anyway, point is, things change all the time. I still love my cds, except I never really have the money to buy the original anymore. I either copy my music off someone else or download it, but either way I still burn it onto a cd somewhere, I cant cope with not having it in physical form. Im paranoid the computer will implode one day or summat and Ill lose all my music, so yeah, I burn it all anyway. CDs wont be replaced with me

Mp3's may take over. But it will take a good few more years. Vinyls enevr were completly replaced. They still exist, people still tarde/buy/sell an dlisten to them. CD's will be the same. Poeple growin gup in the Cd age will keep them as artifects from an older day. Plus I don't know if Mp3's will take over. For one, peopel liek material thinsg eg CD's. People want something they can hold, feel. People like big stacks of thing to show that they have more than anyone else.

yeah if mp3's do take over i doubt we would see the end of cover art and such. im sure that mp3 such and suches would be put out with little cases and booklets inside. otherwis how else would you be able to see what tracks are on the mp3's before you buy them?

I don`t think they will , at least not for a while.
People were saying the same about mini discs 10 years ago

I fecking hated my minidisc player half the time. I had a really good one at first but Vince was a total arse and broke it. Then tried to fix it by putting it on the oven. Wtf? Retard. Anyway, my other minidisc player was a total pain, I had to record it in real time and press a button every time it got to the end of a track, and after all that hassle they wore out really easily too. Nah, Im happy with CDs and my brand spankin' new mp3 player thank yoh.

Id rather have a CD that I can turn into an MP3 than just have an MP3.
I`m not paying for more music everytime I have to reformat my hard drive

well even if cd's are done with, they will come out with another tangible format to sell music, or else record companies would be TOTALLY boned. i dont think we'll see them on the out for quite a few years though.
