No.1 'Sliced Tomatoes' - Just Brothers.
I was going to start this off on my 2000th post, but it sneaked up and passed me by. From time to time I’ll put up a yousendit link of a download for a random Northern Soul track. For those interested... I’ll start off with ‘Sliced Tomatoes’ by The Just Brothers. An instrumental recorded in 1972. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.ph...5A57BA3E04E20F Some of you may recognise this tune, as it was sampled by Norman Cooke (Fatboy Slim) for his ‘Rockafella Skank’ in recent years. You know the one “right about now, you funk soul brother” etc. I demand feedback. |

No 2. 'Out On The Floor' - Dobie Gray.
Best known commercially for 'The 'In' Crowd' (covered by Roxy Music) Dobie Gray's 'Out On The Floor' is arguably the Wigan Casino anthem. This tune epitomises the Northern Soul dance scene. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.ph...ED8CB4766094DE To be played loudly while dancing. Spins/splits and backdrops a must for this one. |

No 3. 'The Snake' - Al Wilson.
If this doesn't bring N.S. to the attention of the girls on this site...nothing will. Ladies...a cautionary tale. Confirms your suspicions that all men are bastards. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.ph...C4B8DC1707458F Recorded in 1968. 'The Snake' has some nice brass, class vocal backing and great lyrics. |
