Well in the late 70s he was responsable for saving loads of old Doctor Who episodes from being junked by the BBC. When he started there were 150 missing but with his efforts it`s now 108.He also worked as continuity advisor in the 80s helping the production team.He had a massive falling out with the producer of the show at the time and has gone on about it ever since to anyone who will listen.
The only problem is he`s an arrogant fucker who reminds you of this fact every time you tell him he`s wrong about something. If you`ve ever seen him argue on a Doctor Who forum he makes Bungalow Bill look like Ghandi. At the moment he`s having a huge arguement with the Doctor Who restoration team , who clean up the episodes and film documentaries for the DVDs over some stupid little thing. He got so much abuse a couple of weeks ago he started up his own forum so that he could publish his own little rants online because he`s been run off almost every doctor who forum going(it also has a Northern Soul forum if you`re interested ) I read how he made a single with that X Factor winner *cough* Steve Brookstein and tried to pass it off as a genuine northern soul single and that apparently his standing in the northern soul community was even lower than what it was in the Doctor Who community.

I just googled Ian Levine + Dr. Who...he's a fan isn't he?
To be fair he did a lot for Northern Soul, but his involvement for introducing newer less quality soul onto the scene (IMO) earned him many enemies. Oldies lovers like myself that is. Some of the monstrocities he's resposible for, are nothing short of heretical. |

Imagine Tony Wilson and how much of a twat he is then times that by 1,000. Jesus don't let him effect Dr.Who like he polluted Northern Soul. |

Due to 'shock' for the most part, that and not knowing quite what to make of your comment. Apologies for taking so long. If you mean by "Motown Lite" that the track 'I Don't Like To Lose' is a lightweight, sugary tune, then I beg to differ. Where in Motown is a song dedicated to a man hellbent on winning at all costs? If you mean the tempo isn't as upbeat as some Northern Soul tracks, then you'd be correct. Northern Soul doesn't limit itself to the smaller independent labels, in fact quite a lot the music played on the Northern Soul scene also comes from the big Motown labels. The criteria being that the tune is danceable to suit Northern tastes. These discarded 'Motown' tracks (Motown produced so much material, that the songs released by them and went on to become successful hits, only represent the tip of a very large iceberg) were salvaged from the archives and given new life in England...the true home of soul. If I'm wide of the mark in interpreting your post, please enlighten me. |
