For only 1299 total plays, there's nothing wrong with only having 104 unique artists, if that's what you're complaining about. That's an average of 12 songs per artist. Any less and we'd think you don't listen to whole albums!
Radio is not cheating (I know, you're just saying it's cheating to you). Though sometimes I feel like deleting all the artists who I've only played single songs by (either via radio or listening to a compilation of sorts). But if removed from the library, it's removed from play history, so...it stays.

Listening to Last.fm radio is a good way to find new stuff/expand your number of artists (if you for some reason care about a generated number on last.fm) if you trust last.fm's recommendations and radio connections. However, getting more artists in your library should be paced, just because you'll need time to soak up new things. Plus, it's a lot more fun to talk to people with say, 200 artists who actually know something about those artists and their music.

Whenever I use the radio, I turn the scrobbler off. If I find a band I like, I'll go DL an album and then I'll scrobble it from my media player.
also, there's this really annoying problem with BOC radio, as there are several bands called Clark, and I always seem to get a folk artist instead of the IDM Chris Clark/Clark. |

Ahh, yes. I hate the way last.fm groups artists with the same name. They should do it like RYM does, each artist should have a separate profile. But that's a catalog site, it's not getting scrobble submissions that it would then need to sort in order to know what profile to submit it to. It would essentially need to have a built-in catalog of everything in existance in order to properly scrobble to individual profiles. I doubt they'll ever do it. Anyway, not a bad idea to turn off scrobbling when listening to the radio though, as some stuff sucks and I end up deleting it from my profile history. Actually I'd rather do that...scrobble and only delete anything that sucked balls.
