The Last.FM client has always been a little hit and miss but on my old PC had probably scrobbled 90% of the plays from my iPod and 100% of my plays from my PC. On my new PC it is still scrobbling from music on hard drive but hasn't scrobbled a thing from my iPod yet.

Best, most reliable iPod scrobblers anyone? Im using Vista.

Edit: I manually manage my ipod and given my last PC died and i have a shiny new laptop my ipod library differs from my itunes library. In essence the albums on my iPod are not on the hard drive of the laptop i am using and connecting my iPod to. I have considered that this is why it isnt scrobbling my ipod plays. However on my old PC it WAS scrobbling plays from albums on my iPod that werent in my iTunes library at the time either (due to one or two hard drive fails and the eventual wiping of my iTunes library).

Could it just be that it was scrobbling these plays because the music WAS on the hard drive, even though it wasnt added to my iTunes?

sidewinder 01-28-2010 09:56 AM

You're right that it might be due to the albums on your iPod not being on your hard drive. The way the scrobbler works, from my understanding, is that when you plug it in, it checks the play count (of your hard drive's library) for new plays and submits those to last.fm. If no new plays are showing, nothing gets submitted.

When I used to manage my iPod manually, which was over a year ago, I used iSproggler. I'd look into that.

Mojo 01-28-2010 09:59 AM

Cheers for that, i might check that out.

I'd assume that how it works too but now i think about it i used to rip CD's to iTunes, transfer them to my iPod and then delete the CD off iTunes and those plays still got scrobbled when i connected my iPod and let the Last.FM client do its business.

With iSproggler, you create a smart playlist on your iPod called "Recently Played" and that's what the program checks when you plug your iPod in. Things may have changed, but that's how it worked back then. I had frequent problems though, so I eventually decided to just sync my iPod (to a specific manual playlist, not to my whole library) and use the standard last.fm client. I have occasional problems but I can usually fix things by restarting the app and/or going to help/diagnostics and manually syncing.

Now that I can now scrobble my vinyl plays, last.fm has become an even better music resource for me. It simply can't be beat for recommendations, trending, and tracking.

^ Thanks dude, looking back it seem slike you listen to a lot of different good stuff.
By the way, right now I have Bakesale, could you reccomend me another Sebadoh album?

Samesies... :)

sidewinder 01-30-2010 01:51 AM

^ From Bakesale, I would go for Harmacy. I conder those two my favorite Sebadoh albums. Some prefer the more trashy/garage high school band sound of their earlier albums, but not me. I prefer the good song writing and good vocals present on most of these two albums.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-30-2010 08:46 AM

I'd say Bubble & Scrape was the most similar to Bakesale.
Harmacy sounds hugely over-produced compared to those albums.

Hammock - 4
Sacred Spirit - 3
Richard Skelton - 2

Strung Out - 2

Then a long list of ones

Different strokes, different folks. :) Bubble & Scrape is where I would recommend going after Harmacy, since you're right that it's a bit closer in style to Bakesale. But really for me Bakesale is a perfect bridge between the two. I just think Bubble & Scrape has too many throwaway songs.

Definitely feels good to revisit a lot of those songs. They were a big influence to me and friend when we played music back in the day.
