1st place: Symphony X Inferno's Solo... its technically great and its very difficul to play (I can, cause i'm studying metal guitar from 4 year )
2nd place: Dream Theater's As I am Solo: maybe not techical like Inferno but is fast and heavy.

obviously there's million and million of fast and superb guitar solos in blues, rock and roll, jazz and other "old" music, because THAT guitarrist were great and divine... i can't remenber any name of them now... but i have hundred cd's where you can listen what they play but you can't reproduce what they DO.
Ok smartass, send me some of your stuff, im dying to hear some of your amazing guitar playing.

And i can name faster solos than those, listen to Mclaughlin or Buckethead or Yngwie.

And i cant believe everyone took my comment about Johnny Ramone seriously, get some freaking wit people.

It was pretty fast for its time, but no, its just extreamly outdated today, at least in terms of speed...I love the solo, but its no where near the fastest, not even close.

Its in the pentatonic scale for one thing, a simple scale progression thats often used to make things sound faster and more complex than they really are...Plus he taps, which gives his playing a faster sound than he would if he picked...People like Yngwie and Buckethead can play faster just from picking, and in more complex scales and time signatures too.

Kirk Hammett is not that fast.

I love Metallica, but Yngwie Malmsteen, Shawn Lane, John Mclaughlan, Steve Vai, Michael Angelo Batio, Rusty Cooley, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci and Michael Romeo are all faster soloists.
