How would one go about making a new genre?

you cant just have a method for coming up with a new genre, it all depends on you're influences, you're skill level, you're creativity. unless you just played a bunch of non-sensical garbage until you found something good, which might work haha.

Indeed, i listen to prog, punk, alternative, metal, grunge, jazz, classical and bluegrass. If i started a genre blending my influences, it would kick ass...I guess i should post that annoying band smiley for no reason now.

Take any kind of music and add a synthesizer. That seems to have worked in the past.

just totally rip off another genre and add the word pop.

i dunno.. but i rekon electronica and dance will be the future...
