98-01 had some of the best releases of the late 90s and early 00s, including (to name a select few)...

The Boy With the Arab Strap Belle & Sebastian
Orange Rhyming Dictionary Jets to Brazil
Mezzanine Massive Attack
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea Neutral Milk Hotel
Agaetis Byrjun Sigur Ros
Since I Left You The Avalanches
Summerteeth Wilco
Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea PJ Harvey
Tourist St. Germain
Discovery Daft Punk

Hardly what I'd call a "horrid" stretch.

And Interpol are a good band, and really don't sound all that much like Joy Division. Franz Ferdinand's S/T was good also (can't say the same for their new one), however they do sound a lot like a less political, more danceable Gang of Four.

Music has always been fresh and exciting, there's never been a stretch of time where music experienced a bad period. No matter what year, era, or decade you pick, there's guaranteed to be a ton of good bands from it.

a rare compliment from Big3. I'm touched.

And I agree with what you said as well. MusicBanter has turned into a "everything you knew about music is totally not true and here is some good **** nigga!" kinda site.

and I love it.

Music is getting worse....the people who like the older stuff are just getting older and aren't liking the newer stuff.

Did that make sense?

It doesn't explain how music is getting worse.
