The Aliens Are Coming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
..... And they want to know about Rock n Roll.
The only problem is their ship will be leaving in just a few minutes and you only have time to play one song that will sum up the whole of 50 years of popular modern culture. The only problem is , which one song to you play to them to represent that ? Edit: and say why as well

im impressed, good concept for a thread
tons of possibilities in the past 50 years, would i play them some elvis or early rock and roll originators? maybe some sabath where rock started turning metal? NY Dolls where rock started turning punk? or something current to show where it is now? hmmmm...tough choices, i think the best description of the rock n roll lifestyle put into a song, as lame as it may be to some, id say... Rock & Roll All Night - Kiss.

My choice.....
The Who - My Generation The reason i`d choose this is pretty simple. For me this is the embodiment of Rock N Roll. It`s youthful , it`s loud & fast , it`s sneering , it`s raw but most of all , even after hearing this song for over 20 odd years it STILL makes me want to jump around the room like an idiot. Even though I must have heard it a million times before. But the most important reason for me is this song has something that is timeless....Attitude Music styles & tastes may come & go but one thing will always be constant. Wanting to create an attitude. It doesn`t matter if you are into Hip Hop , Punk , Indie , Metal , or whatever. ALL bands want to create an attitude and if you were to ask me to name one song that has attitude I would ALWAYS choose this first. And not to mention you have a bone fide hard drinkin hotel trashin rock legend in Keith Moon to tell them about while you play the song.

This was tough. ,
I could have chosen many personal favourites, but I didn’t think that would have answered the question. I decided it was between two songs . Bill Haley’s, ‘Rock Around The Clock’ and Elvis Presley’s, ‘Heartbreak Hotel.’ Both songs were there at the beginning and both played a large part in shaping the future of rock spanning 50 years . O.K. they seem obvious choices, but they are obvious because both songs were ground breaking and pivotal to rock ’n’ roll history. Between the two, ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ takes it. This one song was responsible for influencing countless teenagers ( Lennon just to name one of many) who went on to become the rock stars of the 60s, who in turn shaped modern music and culture into what it is today. |
