How is your local music scene?
Just wondering how everyones local music scene is. I live in South Florida and I have noticed that mosr local bands dont stick together, nobody comes out to live shows, and there is a lack of good venues to play. On the flip side...maybe it sucks because there are no good local bands in the area...

I live in the San Francisco bay area, there's plenty of local music to be had. However, there's an overwhelming number of (IMO) ****ty emo/hardcore bands, you can't really go to a local show without seeing at least one. But then there are still plenty of bands that are great, although most of them are punk. Not that I don't like punk, but it'd be better if there was more variation genre-wise.

Phoenix - AZ..the scene is picking back up again, went into a dry spell where everyone seemed to be sick of it. Lots of good bands reforming or forming from leftover members of previous bands. Theres a list of bands w/ links on azpunk.com

Birmingham has got a big, bad metal scene. My local music studio/practise rooms sounds like a medieval torture chamber, screams and clanking music coming from behind every closed door. There are loads of bands around, although they don't generally communicate with each other - bands turn up just in time for showcase slots, play and go home without listening to the other bands, that kinds of thing.
Birmingham's got a history of metal and other heavy music and you can see it's still going strong in the local musicians! I think that tattoo artists make a mint here too. |

Tampa still has a thriving death metal scene - but who cares? Fortunately we also have a big blues scene. The rock side of things thrived in the late 80's and early 90's but has since faded badly. It coincided with the closing of several rock clubs and the crack-down on DUIs. Go figure. There are still places to catch local music but they are currently booking the same 6 or 8 crappy bands over and over......
