How is your local music scene?
Just wondering how everyones local music scene is. I live in South Florida and I have noticed that mosr local bands dont stick together, nobody comes out to live shows, and there is a lack of good venues to play. On the flip side...maybe it sucks because there are no good local bands in the area...

I live in good ol Tennessee, there are some good Memphis bands down here...Like Crippled Nation.

I live in the San Francisco bay area, there's plenty of local music to be had. However, there's an overwhelming number of (IMO) ****ty emo/hardcore bands, you can't really go to a local show without seeing at least one. But then there are still plenty of bands that are great, although most of them are punk. Not that I don't like punk, but it'd be better if there was more variation genre-wise.:)

Sheffield
I live near Sheffield in England and the music scenes great new bands coming through such as the brilliant Arctic Monkeys, Milburn and The Harrisons

Phoenix - AZ..the scene is picking back up again, went into a dry spell where everyone seemed to be sick of it. Lots of good bands reforming or forming from leftover members of previous bands. Theres a list of bands w/ links on azpunk.com

Birmingham has got a big, bad metal scene. My local music studio/practise rooms sounds like a medieval torture chamber, screams and clanking music coming from behind every closed door. There are loads of bands around, although they don't generally communicate with each other - bands turn up just in time for showcase slots, play and go home without listening to the other bands, that kinds of thing.
Birmingham's got a history of metal and other heavy music and you can see it's still going strong in the local musicians! I think that tattoo artists make a mint here too. |
My local scene makes me want to emigrate

Tampa still has a thriving death metal scene - but who cares? Fortunately we also have a big blues scene. The rock side of things thrived in the late 80's and early 90's but has since faded badly. It coincided with the closing of several rock clubs and the crack-down on DUIs. Go figure. There are still places to catch local music but they are currently booking the same 6 or 8 crappy bands over and over......

We have an incredible scene, and it's growing. All kinds of music, and incredible bands in each genre. A lot of the bands here have been on TV, and some are even on record labels like Jumpstart. There are only about 4 good places to play though. We are starting to get recognition though, because the Code from A-F Records played here last week, and I hear in the next couple months Thought Riot is gonna play. I heard something about Anti-Flag, and Bad Religion playing in the future, but I really don't know anything solid. But, for a small central PA town, I think that's pretty awesome.

my local music scene is pretty good. we've got a pretty wide variety of bands and genre's. most of them are quite rocky but you get the occasional acoustic band! the only annoying thing is that nowadays a lot of the kids who come dont give a **** about the music, and just come to look cool and get wasted. and its people like them that cause good music venues to stop letting bands play there cos of the trouble they cause. it seems to be becoming more controlled now thankfully but its not quite there yet. i think now theres more bands to choose from but back in the day there was a bigger following. or at least a more varied one!
