Have you heard the 'Legacy' Edition of this album. It is a stunning package. 3 discs-2 C.D's and 1 DVD.

nooo unfortunately I haven't, I've got most of the sketches for his follow up album, 'My Sweetheart,The Drunk', which I think contains most songs from the legacy edition..

I once stole the Jeff Buckley Live DVD from an ex girlfriend but she found it had gone missing and I had to give it back... does anyone know a link to the whole show on youtube or something?

No the legacy edition has no corresponding tracks on 'Sketches'. Most of the extra tracks on the legacy edition were covers whereas 'Sketches' was mainly culled from many demo's and studio sessions.

Is it fair to compare his body of work with his sons one and only finished album? Probably not ,but that's all there is to go by. He may have ended up a better songwriter , his music may have got more experimental , he could have done plenty of things , but he didn't. And that is my biggest problem with people who love this album. And what it is to me is an album that shows some promise but relies far too much on other peoples songs.

I disagree strongly and besides Grace only has 3 covers, I don't see why anyone should be discredited becaused they covered other peoples songs, Elvis sure as hell ain't discredited for that. I prefer Buckleys cover of Hallelujah over Cohens original by a great deal.

I don't think people praise Grace simply because of "what could have been", IMO it wasn't an album that promised that Buckley would one day make a great album, it WAS a great album, and sometimes one great album is all you need. At least in my opinion.

His voice is godly and he was a pretty great melodicist too.

Doing a classic song justice is one thing, completely outdoing it is another. Jeff Buckley did this with most of his covers. Even though he wasn't entirely original, not by a long shot, he had a voice that was out of this world. Great vocal range. And the songs he wrote himself on Grace are brilliant no question about it. Last Goodbye has some of the most perfect lyrics I've had the pleasure of hearing...

I'm recently rediscovering this wonderful, wonderful man. Kinda wish he had a bigger discography, but his influence is palpable today.

I think this thread could use some reviving, especially since I have a great interest in his music and vocal ability - writing included.
Pointing out what WolfAtTheDoor stated, his covers are excellent. I tend to enjoy them just as much or more than the originals. And I mean, I can see why he covered songs because from how I see it was he was doing gigs in his early years and at least needed to show off his ability and whatever creativity he could add to a song.

Starting with: When The Levee Breaks. Led Zeppelin's version because I understand it's a cover of a cover, but the band had an influence on him and I believe the way he sung the song was most like Robert Plant's take.

Admittedly I don't like the original like I do the cover, so what he did to Genesis' song Back in N.Y.C was great. He made the song slightly faster, of course, and added the same gritty, harsh voice as Peter Gabriel but made sure to add his own element of singing.

Ha, I'll go ahead and say I added this one because I just loved the song before I realized it was a cover. Anyway he took a pretty good song, Yard of Blonde Girls, and made it into his own, raunchy and as the song says, sexy. This would be the first time I've heard the original.
