Maybe it's because I grew up in one, but I like songs slamming such towns. As Big Black say in the following tune "never anything to do in this town/but stare at each other and wait til we die":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXV6EmSBULY And then there's Johnny Cougar, the pre-fame John Mellencamp, who didn't exactly praise the virtues of a "Small Town": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8C5UdgNp8o And then there's one from Elton John--"there's nothing to steal/so there's not a great deal of crime": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDGsCJJ9hxA I know a number of other such songs. I'm curious to see what ones others can come up with. Last edited by Drjohnrock; 03-05-2025 at 07:45 PM. |

That song is exactly what I'm talking about. Except for driving through once to get somewhere else, I have never returned to the nowhere town I grew up in after my parents moved away. Are those Mason's real grandparents in the video? OK, I'm a bit curious about young Mr. Ramsey's music now. I will definitely check out his cover of Lovesick Blues. |

^^^ Yes, Mason is with his grandparents in that video. His granddad's name is Ernie, and his grandmother goes by the name Skippy. I have no idea why. I just know that Mason was only three weeks old when his grandparents started taking care of him.
God bless you and him and his family always!!! Holly (a girl who only loves him more every day) P.S. As for his singing, to me, his voice is only better now since it did its changing and everything from his album named, I'll See You In My Dreams was written by him. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

This duo has no problems expressing their contempt for their town in this funny song:

Maybe Mason has one of thost Dorian Gray portriats hanging in his home ![]() The Doohickeys are cool: a little like Gram Parsons or Jonny Fritz. They have affection, but not reverence, for country music, and have a lot of other funny tunes. That's a good tune from Reed and Cale. Did Andy Warhol really hate Pittsburgh that much? Maybe so. He bolted for NYC as soon as he finished college. |
