Build Your Supergroup

Hey everyone,
If you could create the ultimate supergroup capable of playing all genres and styles of music across every decade, who would you pick? Here’s the lineup:
Lead Singer
Lead Guitarist
Bassist
Drummer
Bonus Member (e.g., piano, saxophone, or another instrument)
One member must also be able to sing backup vocals. Let me know why you chose each person and how they’d fit into this versatile band. Can’t wait to see your picks—have fun with it!

What a fun first post. Welcome to the board, MK240V. I'm a bit preoccupied with work at the moment but will give my responses by the weekend if not before.

Lead Singer - Jim Morrison (Interesting lyricist with a great voice)

Lead Guitarist - Jeff Beck (He could play any style exceptionally well)

Bassist - John Paul Jones (A multi-instrumentalist in addition to being a top-notch bassist)

Drummer - Ginger Baker (Top-notch drummer with a jazz background in addition to his rock prowess)

Bonus Member (e.g., piano, saxophone, or another instrument) - I'm going with a keyboard player for the bonus member, but it would be a coin-toss between Rick Wakeman or Jon Lord. (Both exceptionally talented and capable of playing various styles of music)

I'll give it a go and all subject to change...

Lead Singer - David Johansen (David Jo can rock and he can croon plus has a love of 50's and 60's R&B)
Lead Guitarist - Slash (melodic as Brian May but can attack like Jimmy Page)
Bassist - Jaco Pastorious (the best!)
Drummer - Roger Taylor (A fun but not overly flashy drummer with great harmonies)
Bonus Member (e.g., piano, saxophone, or another instrument) - Leon Russell (Leon can do honky tonk and rock when needed)

Can I add Mick Ronson as a second guitarist? (He's worked with everybody from Dylan to Bowie to Lou Reed to John Cougar to Elton to Ian Hunter to Morrissey)

Lead singer: Elizabeth Nelson (aka Elizabeth Nelson Bracy)

Currently the lead singer and main songwriter for The Parnoid Style and a prolific music writer, she sings with conviction, humor and intelligence, and writes some of the best lyrics there are.

Lead guitarist: Captain Sensible

I feel the good Captain (real name: Ray Burns) is very underrated as a guitarist. Yes, he can shred in a fine punk manner, but is very versatile, not just with The Damned but with his solo work: 60s psychedelic freak outs, acoustic picking, etc. He handles backing and occasional lead vocals with the band as well as lead vocals on his solo material. He and Ms. Nelson would work well together.

Bassist: Steve Hanley

The longest seving bassist with The Fall, Steve has a distinctive sound that really anchors a band. He can play basic stuff as well as more intricate work.

Drummer: Orpheo McCord

Best known for his work with The Fall, he barely edges out Karl Burns, another former Fall drummer. I saw him live and he was incredible: he can do a basic backbeat, but is all over his drumkit when needed, whatever the song requires

Bonus member: Yvonne Pawlett, keyboards

Another former membe of The Fall, her keyboard playing was integral to the band's playing, not an afterthought tacked on as in many rock bands. Check out her work on The Fall's debut album, Live At The Witch Trials.

Hey MK240V: how about posting your own supergroup?

MK240V 01-11-2025 04:36 PM
