Concerts You Went To Where The Headiner Didn't Show Up
Not ones that were cancelled or postponed in advance, but ones where you showed up for the concert but the headliner didn't.
Sylvain Sylvain (ex-New York Dolls) had a free concert scheduled to promote a solo album. A guy walked to the microphone and said "Good evening. Sylvain Sylvain didn't show up." He went on to say they received no calls (pre-internet, kids) or other communication explaining why. That meant the opening act was now the headliner. Since I didn't care for the band (basically a new wave tourist attraction), I left. Oh well, the beer I bought and consumed at the venue was good. Another time, I went to see Heart to find out Ann Wilson was under the weather and the show would have to be rescheduled. I was able to go the rescheduled date. A friend of mine from school once drove two and a half hours in the rain to Wheeling, West Virginia to see Dan Fogelberg only to arrive and find out the show was cancelled (again, pre-internet). He got what he deserved. |

Aerosmith cancelled a day or two ahead of a 'World Series Of Rock' at Cleveland Municiple Stadium in 1977. We decided to not get the refund and saw Todd Rundgren's Utopia as the headliner which isn't a stretch in Cleveland. Others on the bill were Ted Nugent, Nazareth and Southside Johnny. Fun day.

I went to see the Cirlcle Jerks headline a punk show back in the 80's. Got there early enough to see the other bands play but when it was time for the Circle Jerks to play they were a no-show. No announcement was made to explain the situation to the audience. Most of us waited for a while figuring they might be late getting to the venue but after a while people got bored and started leaving and as far as I know, the band never arrived.
I never did find out why they didn't show up that night. |

I saw the original six person Utopia not long after the release of the first Utopia album. They played songs from that album as well as a wide variety of Todd's solo stuff. |

I've long since forgotten the names of the other bands. I think they were all local area bands I hadn't heard of before the show. None of them stood out in my mind at the time. I'm guessing none of them went on to become known nationally or internationally.

One more I forgot to mention: Mrs. Drjohnrock and I arrived to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy in late 2022, only to find that the show was cancelled due to at least one member of the band or crew getting COVID. Fortunately, I bought physical tickets in advance in cash at the venue, so I was able to get my refund right then and there instead of being jerked around for weeks by Ticketbastard. I hate Ticketbastard with all the fire in hell.
