Shortest lyrics we've had so far, just two lines - and I'm completely stumped!

I surrender.

Okay. It was "Broken Wings" by Mr. Mister.

First one you couldn't get; you should be really proud.

I'll post the next round tomorrow.

An 80s classic. All we needed was one more line: "Receive these defunct ailerons.."

And with that, the ringside judges unanimously award the round to TH

Yeah, I try to stay away from the chorus as it often can give it away.

But no: that's one you guys didn't get in 11 rounds. Most certainly you have the advantage on me, and even in this round, to paraphrase Meat Loaf, five out of six ain't bad.

That's right - cheers to our TH, the most clever and prolific cryptic wordsmith ever. He really managed to stump us good this time! Even Google couldn't save us.

*Googles ailerons*

Meh, speaking as an aviation nut, ailerons are not wings, they're flaps on the wing that control its direction and help it roll, or avoid rolling. I would have used pinions or even appendages, but again as I say, if at all possible I keep away from the chorus, mostly because often lines repeat, and it can make it too easy.

^Ailerons was quite a regular word in our house at one point, with the kids trying to make paper aeroplanes fly straight, to cries of "stop fiddling with the ailerons, now it's even worse!"

You put ailerons on your paper aeroplanes? We just folded up a piece of paper, made it look vaguely like a plane and trusted to luck. I remember ailerons from making Airfix model kits.

Now I'm googling and learning about paper aerodynamics during lunch, lol.

My son went through a phase of loving aircraft. I used to take him to a hobby and arts store near our home - we assembled a couple of planes using kits - it was fun!

Round 12

Song 1

We attained manhood with fortitude in this country of which I am not ashamed
Constantly all of us were desired
The lesson was to engage in combat and emerge victorious
Never did I believe I would not succeed.
Apparently bowed and beaten
As a male, I find myself abandoned by my dreams
Despite having altered my visage, altered my manner
There is no demand for your services when you have not won.

Answer: "Dont' Give Up" by Peter Gabriel (with Kate Bush)

Song 2

Arising mute as the sun goes down
Arriving at my domicile as the sun rises,
I take to sleep, my emotions unchanged.
All I am is weary, tedious and jaded of my own company
I say dear, some assistance would be very welcome.

Answer: "Dancing in the Dark" by Bruce Springsteen

Song 3

Is there someone who will advise you when the time has advanced far further than you had anticipated?
Can you identify the one who will explain to you that the situation is not at all as you had expected it to be, and is in fact much worse?
Progress is impossible if you continue to be of the mind that all is well
Point out he who will convey you to your domicle by motor vehicle this evening.

Answer: "Drive" by The Cars

Song 4

Shut out the light, extend your appendage in my direction
Dearest, is the rhythm of my vital organ tactile to you?
Is comprehension yours?
Are my emotions reciprocated by you?
Do I but sleep and fantasise while doing so?

Answer: "Eternal Flame" by The Bangles

Song 5

I receive a telephone communication initiated by you
Speaking of love and emotion directed at a person whose acquaintaince you have just made
And advising me of your remorse that you had to depart so precipitously
And further, that my presence is often marked by you when nobody is about and you sit in your boudoir
Is this feeling of abandonment unique to you, is your question?

Answer: "Separate Lives" by Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin

Song 6

The sound comes to my ears of time passing
As I reclline in darkness here in my room.
I question your location this evening
My calls remain unanswered when I dial your number.
Morning does not approach quickly at all
It is my fervent wish, however, that when it comes I will be in your company.

Answer: "Alone" by Heart
