Pop Songs Sung by a Better Class of Person, Don'tcha Know?
Always found it crazy how the English "upper class" referred to themselves as "one". One is pleased to meet you; one would serve if one were called upon; where are one's spectacles? etc. So I thought it would be fun to rewrite some classic pop songs as they might be sung in some country manor or mansion by the so-called upper class.
In other words, yes, I escaped again! Just try and stop me! Mwahahahahahaaa! "My Way" (Frank Sinatra) And now, the end is near, and so one faces the final curtain. One's friends, one will say it clear, one will state one's case, of which one is certain. One has lived a life that's full, one has travelled each and every highway And more, much more than this, one did it one's way. Regrets, one has had a few, but then again, too few to mention. One did what one had to do, one saw it through without exception. One planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway And more, much more than this, one did it one's way. Yes there were times, one is sure you knew When one bit off more, more than one could chew But through it all when there was doubt One ate it up and spat it out. One did it all, and one stood tall and did it one's way. One has lived, one has laughed and cried One has had one's fill, one's share of losing And now, as tears subside, one finds it all so amusing To think one did all that, and may one say not in a shy way? Oh no, oh no not one, one did it one's way. For what is a man, what has he got, if not himself, then he has not To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels. The record shows, one took the blows and did it one's way! "I Just Called to Say I Love You" (Stevie Wonder) No New Year's Day to celebrate No chocolate-covered candy hearts to give away. No first of spring, no songs to sing In fact it's just another ordinary day. No April rain, no flowers bloom No wedding Saturday within the month of June But what it is is something true Made up of these three words that one must say to you. One just called to say one loves you One just called to say how much one cares One just called to say one loves you And one means it from the bottom of one's heart. "Hello" (Lionel Ritchie) One has been alone with you inside one's mind And in one's dreams one's kissed your lips a thousand times One sometimes see you pass outside one's door. Hello, is it one you're looking for? One can see it in your eyes, one can see it in your smile You're all one's every wanted, and one's eyes are open wide Cause you know just what to say and you know just what to do And one wants to tell you so much, one loves you. One longs to see the sunlight in your hair And tell you time and time again how much one cares. Sometimes one thinks one's heart will overflow. Hello, one just got to let you know. For one wonders where you are and one wonders what you do Are you somewhere feeling lonely or is someone loving you? Tell one how to win your heart, for one hasn't got a clue. But let one start by saying, one loves you.

I'm about as far from bored as you can be. I have tons to do. Back working on my History of Ireland and History of England journals at the moment, as well as writing Christmas stories. But occasionally my brain springs a leak and this stuff all spills out, and you guys just got caught in the backwash. I actually sung that "My Way" (or, if you prefer "One's Way") for Karen using her ever-so-English Teddy Bear Barney. She loved it. Well, she had no choice really; she's stuck there isn't she? What's she going to do, run away?
