RPG's: Your Preferred Class / Classes
We all know the standard rogue, thief, warriors etc. I'm curious to know what other people tend to default to when it comes to RPG's. If you combine classes feel free to put those as well.
Typically if I'm starting a new game, I tend to go with a warrior or a balanced class or something so I can get to know the game. Then I start to combine different things. Like an archer and thief etc. Or a sniper who's really good at stealth. And if you want to include the specific stats you go for, that's ok too. I once did a Fallout 4 character with a special interest in security and lockpicking. |
I mean it's kinda different for different games. If we're talking a game like Fallout or Elder Scrolls then sneak archer/sniper 4 absolute life and I feel weird playing differently. If we're talking an ARPG then all classes are up for grabs cause I want to dick around with all the things, though ranged characters and abilities always have sway with me. And... how many other kinds of RPGs are so class specific?
|
I almost exclusively go for charismatic characters who can get by with a smile, and if possible, do anything that increases my luck. After that I typically focus on survivability... high armor class is a must.
Because of this, my damage dealing usually takes a back seat. I find myself in support roles more often than not, which is fine. How I support changes by the game. Sometimes I’m a sneaky sneak with other skills, sometimes I’m a face, other times a tank. Ideally, I’m something in between the three. And most ideally, I roll way more 20’s than anybody else because of feats or something else than increases my luck. |

I've come to really love ranged and mage characters if I have the choice. Playing through Div 2 I had a blast with my mage and archer. Both were ****ing strong and had such cool weapons and abilities. |

I always lean toward charisma and strength/magic to begin with. It's the Gryffindor in me.

I like fancy classes, but often find basic classes to play better in various RPG's.
The RPG I've played that had the most fun classes was Realms of Arkania 3. Not only your usual warriors, mages and rangers, but also sub classes like vikings, witches and more questionably useful classes like druids and jesters. The game used 6 character teams and had more skills than any other RPG I've seen. Even stuff like haggling, searching for herbs and rope handling. My favorite thing in the game was that witch class spell that caused enemies to leave battle with "a sudden craving for strawberries". All other RPGs I've played feel comparatively restrained  |
****ing noted.

literally anything but mages usually
unless it's something rad like necromancer in diablo ultimately depends on the game tho. sometimes i wanna front line hack and slash and sometimes i wanna sneak up and assassinate. |
I'm generally not a fan of tanks and warriors. I like to run backwards away from the enemy chucking fireballs and ****.
|
Ranged casters, hybrid utility classes, and healers, and Teemo.
I took a diff path in FFXIV going with a Dragoon. and in Ultima Online my 2 most played characters are a melee bard and an animal tamer. |
oh **** yeah healers are super underrated
|
Healers can be really good I agree.

I stay loyal to the working class

For D&D 3.5 I liked Wizards, because magic in Faerun was hilarious. Plus, if everyone who's playing is also stoned, it makes it that much more funny.
D&D 5E, I liked the Assassin to start with. That rapier and sneak attack crit saved my ass A LOT. For video games like The Elder Scrolls series? In Oblivion I ended up really liking the Atronach birth sign with the Wizard class and a High Elf because Magick was OP AF in Oblivion if you got inside of the game mechanics enough to figure out how to properly manipulate it. The other thing I really liked about Oblivion was that Athletics and Speed were separate, allowing you to jump ridiculously high and move faster than other NPCs, and there were spells to adjust that to make it even more faster and jump even more higher as well which...made archery HOURS of thrilling fun. There's nothing as awesome as leaping over a Daedroth, sinking an arrow into its skull, and landing to spin a 180 just to do it again. With Skyrim, I liked a Khajiit Thief the most. The Ancient Shrouded Gloves with the Backstab perk from Sneak, and a dagger will make your dagger do x30 sneak attack damage. If you want to pump that higher, you can use The White Vial to raise your One Handed temporarily. Plus there's a way you can Slow Time shout for 12 hours and sink a volley of arrows into enemies, but at that point the game just goes pure sandbox basically which can, honestly be fun for killing time and screwing with mechanics once you've hit max level. Fallout 3 I made a sniper/agility build character. Grim Reaper's Sprint was broken in Fallout 3, and I think I remember counting killing like 15 - 22 ghouls in the Point Lookout arena before my AP actually ran out? Something like that. And then all it took was 1 V.A.T.S. kill to reset all of my AP and do it all over again. lol. I did get the MIRV, I had 208 nukes saved for it, but found it of little use other than silly entertainment when I got bored with the game. Also on that playthrough, I decided to kill the Supermutant Behemoth in the Capital Building with the Dart Gun...it took two hours...I was bored, and it was a funny concept at the time. New Vegas, I just did small guns. I DID come up with a melee character/legionnaire build, but I never got around to doing it. |
