Samus is a bounty hunter with a Psycho Gun and some other cool toys.

Superman is basically a god.

So, yeah. Unless Samus can cheese him off with some convenient Kryptonian upgrades from her Chozo bros, things ain't lookin' good for her.

I suppose it depends if she can get her speed booster up and exactly how combat capable she'd be during. She has a freeze gun that could stop him for a short time, and it's possible that the screw attack could at least hurt him and that she'd still be at least relatively resistant to damage. Not to mention power bombs don't need super speed. I mean she fights alien dragons on a regular basis so it's not like she's a chump like Boba Fett.

And if we're to presuppose that she's allowed to upgrade with Kryptonite based weapons then who knows? Kryptonite screw attack? Might just cut him in half.

In gaming terms, Superman is power level 20 and can power stunt any of his superpowers to do whatever he wants, including fly so fast he time travels and kiss a girl to create amnesia. He's boringly overpowered.

All those got reduced with Crisis on Infinite Earths though.

Well if the almighty Batman can beat him I don't see why Samus can't... consistent physical laws of the made up universe are trumped by "good" stories/arcs/whatever.

I'm no Superman or Samus historian, but there might be a loophole for Samus. She sexes him up while he's Clark Kent and just shanks him before he can put on his cape and suit. Doesn't he always have to run and hide to put on his gear so no one knows who he is? So yea, it's in that brief window of opportunity. Pretty anti-climactic in terms of superpower and battle armor use between the two, though.

When I first read the title I thought it was "Superman vs Shamus". You know, that Irish superhero, Shamus, The Irish Rover, whose power is that he can drink himself into a stupor and then puke over the villain? Great guy. Just don't go drinking with him.
