Sure, yeah, you go do that. How's that Philly journal going again?

Oh for God's sake! Isn't it obvious? If you want to "prove" something isn't "that obscure" you have to be able to listen to it don't you? If you make EDM music in your basement but never release it, or buy albums by your best friend's mate who never got a record deal, yes it's obscure but it's - for the want of any other word - unfairly obscure, ie nobody can ever say it isn't because they can't listen to it and therefore by definition it is TOO obscure. For the purposes of this thread I mean.

The whole idea of the thread can be summed up like this:
Me: "I think band X are super obscure!"
You: "No they're not. I've heard of them."
Me: "Oh yeah? Where?"
You: You either answer if you can or you say "Um", in which case you can't prove you know them, as you have no chance to hear them, therefore the point is totally moot.

And yes, I know: I'm moot.

But that's how it has to work, otherwise everyone could claim they have obscure music that, you know man, they'd love you to hear but it just ain't available anywhere, take my word for it.

It's just for fun, this, but we may as well do it properly.

ISB gets it. He's cool.

I have a handful of artists I'm most legitimately curious about people knowing that I rep/have CDs of and I decided I wanna post those instead of trying to "win". I mean I know some that I'm sure would get me there but this is more interesting.

I can't remember where my Horsies CD came from but I've played it to death and I'm always baffled that it's so unknown for such a holy grail of eccentric indie music.

I've got an oddball track I'd be curious to hear whether or not anyone knows. One DJ at WBER in Rochester, NY played the hell out of this track for years in the 80s.

Youtube confirms that the track had practically zero airplay outside of that town.

File under "perky new-wave goth"

Why are we really concerned about proving anything? If somebody tries gaming the system with their friend's garage band who played a couple school dances and then nothing, then what is being lost by letting such a lamewad do so? In fact, if any number of people are trying to "cheat" on such a thread, then isn't the whole idea pointless cause who the **** cares about the participants?

Honestly, I just think it's fun to trying finding a band nobody else can claim to know. If there's an end game or a point to all this, I could give a ****, and I doubt anyone else does. This is not a thread that needs rules. I just wanna stick it to Mondo.

I'm kinda with Bat (and maybe Mondo?) on this.
I don't understand why these things have to be
some kind of competition with rules and shit
when it could be just a fun, learning/expanding
your horizons thing. Someone posts something
that they like: it just happens to be a bit obscure to most -
maybe saying why it moves them -
and other people who've never heard of it can comment.
Instead of trying to one-up other people,
they can just expand other people's interests (or not).
You know: having a music discussion?
People win even if they don't like it 'cause at least
they had a chance to form an opinion by gaining
some knowledge. The tunes that have already been
posted that I didn't know, I've gained from hearing
them and by checking out more about the groups.
