Name a Movie Rate a Movie

One person states a movie, and the next person rates it (and can even give a mini-review if they want). And then that person states another movie.

OK, I go first. Forrest Gump.

Black Francis 04-28-2016 02:58 PM

7.5/10

What i really like about Forrest gump is that the despite the fact he accomplished so many things he never turned into an assh*le. Tom hanks did but Forrest didn't.

Super troopers.

How is Tom Hanks an asshole? I always got the impression he was nice.

This movie gets a couple points for what went into making it since it was such a grassroots indie movie. But I don't think I laughed even once while watching it.

North By Northwest

Frownland 04-28-2016 04:08 PM

North by Northwest is pretty great, but there's some more slow burning bits of the film that don't quite deliver. Still, an 8/10.

Oldboy

DeadChannel 04-28-2016 04:52 PM

Not half as good as Sympathy for Mr Vengeance and I Saw the Devil, but still pretty damn good. 7/10.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Frownland 04-28-2016 05:00 PM

We all know that Thirst is his best one anyway.

It was because of Fear & Loathing that I started carrying around a briefcase where I'd stash my drugs and CDs in high school, and it sparked my journalistic pursuits. Depp does a pretty great Thompson, although I think that Bill Murray did it better in Where the Buffalo Roam. 10/10 easily.

My Left Foot

Mr. Vengeance is one of my favourite films ever. Sorry.

Also, Depp > Murray. Fear and Loathing is Depp's best performance imo.

Daniel Day Lewis is hard to go wrong with. An easy 8/10.

La Haine

Frownland 04-28-2016 05:15 PM

(Haven't seen La Haine). I think Depp's performance is better in terms of acting and being entertaining, yes, but as far as being true to Thompson, Bill Murray takes the cake. Depp took a lot of liberties with his personality and mannerisms imo, but I agree that it's his best performance.

Black Francis 04-28-2016 05:34 PM

Haven't seen La haine either.

Supposedly he's one the nicest guy in Hollywood but i remember hearing he is hard work with because he's very strict.

JGuy Grungeman 04-28-2016 11:06 PM

Well, somebody watch La Haine! Or, in the event that the thread goes 24 hours without an answer, another user can pick a movie. How's that?

JGuy Grungeman 05-01-2016 03:23 PM

Well, no one's gone. I guess I'll state a new movie.

Shawshank Redemption.

Who doesn't love this movie? One of all the time greats that can be loved by movie buffs and casual audiences as well. 10/10.

American History X

DeadChannel 05-01-2016 04:51 PM

You all suck. La Haine is top ten films ever. Watch it.

Edit: Also, I don't love The Shawshank Redemption. Incredibly overrated imo.

One of my friends watched La Haine recently, and now he won't stop telling me how great it is, will be watching soon.

It really is. Chills.

JGuy Grungeman 05-05-2016 07:11 PM

Ugh... OK, let's just go for more common movies.

Blade Runner.

Tristan_Geoff 05-05-2016 07:47 PM

8/10

Rad flick. I felt like the ending scenes were a little rushed though.

The Country Bears

Frownland 05-11-2016 10:37 AM

Been more than 24 hours, I'll handle this.

The Babadook

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 05-11-2016 10:39 AM

One of the best horror movies in recent memory, imo. 9/10

It Follows

The Lobster

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 05-11-2016 01:14 PM

Love love loved it. The first half was a little bit stronger than the second, but John C. Reilly and Colin Farrell both killed it, and the writing was excellent. 8/10

Ex Machina

No love for The Country Bears?

Frownland 05-11-2016 03:12 PM

I can't say that about a movie I've never seen.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 05-11-2016 03:12 PM

Rate Ex machina you jerks.

Joking of course. It was a 2002 Disney straight-to-video film based on the Country Bear Jamboree attraction.

This sentence is to expand the number of characters because I cannot post anything shorter for some reason.

.

JGuy Grungeman 05-11-2016 05:26 PM

That's not what my post allowed me to do.

Frownland 05-11-2016 05:29 PM

You need one character. Just use a period.

JGuy Grungeman 05-11-2016 05:30 PM

I just wonder why it did it in the first place.

Anyway,. Ex Machina is next, just so we don't get off-topic.

Key 05-11-2016 09:46 PM

I've probably heard of .10% of the movies you guys talk about in this thread. They're should be a rule against obscurity.

'71. Personally, I give it a 10/10

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 05-12-2016 06:32 AM

8/10, Jack O'Connell is one of the best up and coming actors out there.

Something a little less "obscure" since Ki demanded it.
