Just curious...

If you do know, have you had it? Thoughts?

I'm interested to see how limited to NJ it really is since we have a pretty diverse community.

Pork roll is the king of breakfast meats. Fuck bacon.

If you mean sauage roll, then yes. I liked them when I ate meat. They're tasty.

DwnWthVwls 11-09-2015 05:13 PM

Nope, but that makes me think I should add a pic. Thanks

Frownland 11-09-2015 05:25 PM

That would be popular in New Jersey.

Mr. Charlie 11-09-2015 05:27 PM

Looks a bit like spam. Is it disgusting?

Psy-Fi 11-09-2015 05:37 PM

I can't recall ever seeing it in the New England area, although I don't usually buy processed meats so I might not notice it if it's available where I am. Looks like a cross between bologna and what's commonly known in New England as 'Canadian bacon.'

The Batlord 11-09-2015 05:39 PM

Is that spam sausage? Gross.

That's probably the thing it's closest too.

Don't they call it "Canadian bacon" elsewhere in the US and also in Canada? I remember John Candy made a movie called Canadian Bacon so I thought they called it "Canadian bacon" everywhere.

I think it is closer to a Salami than Bologna. It's not bad, a bit on the sweet side. Sometimes I make a BLT with pork roll, more like a PRLT. I like anything with lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise on toast.

Pet_Sounds 11-09-2015 05:58 PM

Canadian bacon is just from a different part of the pig and usually comes breaded with peameal. Not that stuff.

*real bacon.

YorkeDaddy 11-09-2015 07:40 PM

Yeah that just looks like Canadian bacon to me. Very tasty stuff but doesn't beat out bacon imo.

No one said it was Canadian bacon, just that it looks like it. Psy-Fi said " Looks like a cross between bologna and what's commonly known in New England as 'Canadian bacon.'" I was just curious who calls it "Canadian bacon" and who calls it "back bacon." "Peameal bacon" is a type of back bacon that's been rolled in ground yellow peas, or cornmeal to extend shelf life.

Pork roll is sweet and tangy. I think it is somewhere between Salami and Summer Sausage, but you have to grill or fry it.

Maybe that is the common name for it in the U.S. and Canada. I had some friends from Montreal who used to call it "back bacon." I thought "Canadian bacon" was mostly used in the Northeastern U.S.

Most people up here call it "back bacon" or occasionally "peameal bacon". "Canadian bacon" is an American thing.

That's a very disturbing thing for a mod to say.

Plankton 11-10-2015 08:54 AM

I just had a breakfast sandwich with pork roll in it last weekend. Pretty tasty. It was from the restaurant my daughter manages, which is a bit posh. They can do amazing things with low end food stuffs though.

Apparently saying tasty makes you pretentious now, so welcome to the club, Plankton.

Cool. Are there like, tasty snacks and stuff?

Frownland 11-10-2015 09:20 AM

Maybe. We'll taste the snacks before sitting and pondering for a while about how tasty they truly are. Then we'll send our writings to an academic journal of sorts for peer review.

Didn't say "pretentious". Said "twat".

Frownland 11-10-2015 09:36 AM

One day you'll eat or drink something that doesn't taste like ****e, then you'll realize that being a twat is a great thing.

I'll just say, "God damn, that was good as shit."

Because I'm a dick, not a twat.
