What if you've been friends with someone since childhood. Do you abandon him, because he became hipster at some point?

The fact that you're compatible with a hipster is the evidence, not that you happen to be in proximity. Even if you stopped hanging out with them (no matter what the reason), the sheer fact that you were capable of being friends with somebody with the "hipster gene" in the first place makes you suspect.
