Pizzer vs Pizza
Beeah vs Beer

I was driving through PA many years ago on one of many road trips and I stopped at a gas station to refuel and thought I'd ask the attendant if there was somewhere nearby to purchase some 'beeah.' I asked him if there was a nearby 'package store' and he said "you mean like Fed Ex or UPS?"

And don't forget 'pissa' (not to be confused with pizza) and 'wicked pissa' (also not to be confused with pizza, unless you're having 'wicked pissa pizzer!')

Pizza: adj Za (or) Pie.

Also, in my travels to Michigan, I found out they don't call places where you can buy liquor "Liquor Stores", they call them "Party Stores". Seems like an upgrade to me.

Warsh is a big one around Indiana. Also a lot of people, mainly older adults, tend to and an 's' to store names. As in, "I'm gonna go run down to Targets to pick up some stuff."

and who can forget the classic LIBARRY

Its not about where I'm from, its about where they learned to speak. But to answer your question...the 7th circle of Hell is where I'm from.

The place reserved for traitors?

You must mean that one, cause you dont strike me as violent at all..

Chula Vista 03-24-2015 10:34 AM

So then, where'd you learn to speak?

Two shorts adequately summarize all of my linguistic vexations.

The first is a 3-minute rant by David Mitchell speaking of "The Queen's English" to set Americans straight.

The other is the ultra-sexy kinetic typographical tribute to Stephen Fry on Language.
