why is there never any mention of H H Holmes in these conversations?

"I was born with the devil in me. I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than the poet can help the inspiration to sing — I was born with the "Evil One" standing as my sponsor beside the bed where I was ushered into the world, and he has been with me since."

H. H. Holmes' capacity for evil was really incredible. I saw a documentary on his hell house one time. Horrifying stuff.

Just because someone's a lunatic doesn't mean they can't be lucid. My point is that he didn't seem to be in control of his own mental faculties as Bundy. If your brain is misfiring as opposed to simply being made differently but otherwise functioning according to its nature, then I find the latter to be more monstrous.

Yeah, H.H. Holmes might just take the cake. To have the level of premeditation to construct a house simply for the purpose of murder is some next level **** even as far as serial killers go.

Right?? And he kept hiring/firing people for the construction so that the actual layout of the building was only known by him.

Ted was aware of the workings of his own mind to the point where he could coherently discuss them as if he were a psychology major. He was a brilliant guy but holy shit, what the fuck... what the fuck. Something obviously went horribly wrong there.

I imagine talking to Fish or Dahmer would be a rather boring experience past the morbid curiosity aspect, but Bundy sounded like an interesting person to interact with.

Ted Bundy had a bright future ahead of him, and he was practically a genius. He had a tight grip on vocabulary, and really knew how to talk to people, knew just what to say to make an impression. He had a smile to die for (hehehheh). It's sad that he chose to do what he had done. It's really such a waste of a brilliant mind.

I don't know if "chose" is quite the right word. He was clearly not insane in the sense that his brain wasn't functioning as it was designed to, but his compulsions were clearly out of his control to an extent. I mean, if you're on the run and trying to avoid drawing the attention of police, you don't attack a Sorority house, then move on to a private home, then try to pick up a kid, all in one night (or at least a whatever very short time period it was). He clearly wasn't in control of his impulses at that point, whether or not he had any desire to be.

or maybe he knew it was over and he wanted to get as much in as he could before being caught?

I don't remember all the details of the case, I haven't had much interest in serial killers since high school.
