Completely unrelated question, but how long is it before popcorn burns in the microwave?

Depends on the microwave and the popcorn I guess. I usually just take it out once the popping goes down to about once ever five seconds (that's a very vague guess as it's all about judgement calls). But don't take it out just because it starts smelling a bit burnt, cause I find that the popcorn will be perfectly fine even then. Just wait till the popcorn sounds like it's almost done popping, but before it stops completely, even if you smell some burning beforehand.

You have to listen, one pop per second it's done, anything longer it'll burn. Don't recycle un-popped popcorn, I think it burns and it isn't good for you.

This is nonsense. The bottom will be filled with unpopped kernels if you do this. Let it ride, man. It's possible to have nearly the entire bag popped without them burning. You just have to trust your instincts.

This is nonsense.. If 5 consecutive pops have longer than 2 seconds in between it's done.
