And I could never take Christian Bale seriously as Batman or Bruce Wayne. Nothing against him, but as far as I'm concerned Kevin Conroy (voice actor from the nineties cartoon) is and always will be Batman. All others are a distant last place.

The thing with Conroy is that he has the voice down PERFECTLY but by physical appearance he doesnt look like what I'd imagine a real-life Bruce Wayne to look at all, so if he was cast as a live action Batman it would be a two-sided coin for me.

I liked Bale enough. His "deep voice" while he was Batman was too exaggerated for me, but he pulled off the handsome millionaire pretty well and was pretty effective at seeming like a badass with the suit on.

I haven't actually. For no apparent reason I never got into collecting actual comic books as a kid. I guess I just didn't live that close to a comic shop or something. Maybe it was my all-consuming Star Wars obsession that was immediately followed by my thrash metal obsession.
Well now is a great time to start! You can probably get every notable graphic novel (Arkham Asylum, The Long Halloween, Returns, Year One, probably a few others) for like 40 total dollars and all of it is just so awesome assuming you at least slightly enjoy reading comics in general.

Conrory was bomb as Batman's voice... and yes you are the only one.... I took Christan Bale more seriously then George Clooney

Well obviously he couldn't play a live-action Batman, but it doesn't change the fact that whenever I see Christian Bale or Michael Keaton (Val Kilmer and George Clooney don't count) I always measure them up against an actor who pretty much defined my idea of Batman as a kid. And not just in a nostalgia way either. He's just one of the most perfectly cast voice over roles in history.

I've started to actually. Unfortunately every time I go to Barnes and Noble the one I had found the other week is always gone. I got the Killing Joke a while ago though. It's kind of mind blowing just how influential such a short comic was on the Joker. I doubt the Dark Knight would have been the same movie without it.

The Killing Joke is probably my favorite thing I've ever read. So short, but so twisted and effective, and it pretty much defined the Joker and solidified himself in my eyes as the greatest villain in the history of fiction.

The thing that gets me is how they manage to give the Joker motivations that you kind of have to agree with at least just a little bit that make him seem almost human, and yet he's still quite possibly the only ever truly successful villain who is just evil for the sake of being evil. How Alan Moore pulled that off I have no idea.

Batman by a long way (is there anyone who didn't expect THE BATLORD's choice to be BATMAN?) ;) --- never liked Superman for pretty much most of the reasons given here. I mean, other than kryptonite, nothing stops him. He's a bloody machine. And he has zero personality. Also, he's the epitome of the American Dream. Puke.

BTW Batty if you venture into the world of comic books I mean graphic novels, you MUST try "Watchmen" and "V for Vendetta" --- never mind the movies, read the originals. You won't be disappointed, though you may need to order a new brain online, as your current one will just be fried!

He started his own business? ;)

This. Also, I highly recommend Moore's run on Swamp Thing. Some of my favorite comics ever written right there.

Yeah, **** Superman. He had a good cartoon in the nineties too, but only because it was done by the same people as Batman.

Already read Watchman, and yes it's fantastic. I don't know why you have anything against the movie though. The only thing really wrong with it was that faithfully adapting a serialized comic book of connected but still separate parts into a movie can make the whole thing seem to meander without any real direction. It made V for Vendetta almost unwatchable, but Watchman managed to do it well. And that's saying something for an almost three-hour movie.

Have you read Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run, Batty?

The Batlord 02-05-2014 10:21 AM

I'm still new to discovering comics, but I have heard of it.
