The Sellout Thread
Really disappointed in Nick Cave for recording Into My Farm for some agriculture lobby .
Okay I made that one up thankfully but feel free to post either fictitious or real life musical abuses such as Status Quo fronting for Coles supermarkets with Down Down (prices are down). |

Somehow I find that more forgivable. I'm kind of more excited that they found Slayer an appealing platform to attach their brand to.

Nick Cave to sing Barossa's praises / Agricultural News - Efficient Farming : Your one stop Agricultural Portal I absolutely despise those ads... worst sellout ever. Almost as bad as the Coles 'Little Red Quote' ads... |

Slayer aren't really a band anymore. They've booted their original drummer for complaining about Kerry keeping all the money for himself, Jeff is dead, and they've only had one good album since Seasons In the Abyss. So, if I can get some amusement from an Apple commercial with "Raining Blood" then I don't really care.

nailed it. It's easy for us to say in our position that we'd be all about the music and would oppose the rich and famous lifestyle.
If we were an artist who had put out consistently great records for years but received no media attention/praise for their work the dejection would likely make you want to change your style to finally get the recognition you feel you deserve. Or imagine you're the same hypothetical artist and despite 20 years of writing sublime records you're still struggling to make ends meet whilst some talentless reality TV contestant is raking in millions for one track, who can blame you for wanting to do a car commercial or create a more mainstream record in order to see some money in your bank account by pandering to idiots who like s*it music with great marketing. |

i think ass napkin ed is wrong in the sense that its not 'the point' of being an artist but i certainly agree with u manky. its a balance of makin the music that is true to you and makin music your managers and label tells you to make to create larger appeal
at some point every band makes the conscious decison to switch from muisc-as-a-hobby to music-as-a-job. and if joe schmoe got a job offer with a pay raise of 2000% they would take the new job almsot regardless of what type of job it was or whether that new job would make friends and fans of his angry |
