There are videos on YouTube with cats speaking to each other via meowing but I know its not a peer reviewed article however. I wonder why they meow so much at humans?

Generally they don't meow at each other. When they do it's rare and their owner is in the area. so they could be meowing about their owner to each other.

I heard cats only meow for the attention of humans, if they weren't domestic then they wouldn't do it as much.
