I've had them by proxy all my life. Wonderful creatures when you take the time to understand them. Most people think they're snotty, unloving animals. They couldn't be more ignorant. These animals succeeded as a species in the way that they have, neighbors of society, specifically for their ability to co-exist and provide great benefits, along with companionship.
While most people may see narrowly in such a way as only dogs can provide that companionship, it's simply a matter of them not understanding the interaction. It's the same, however it is expressed differently. Both dogs and cats are equally domestic and affectionate. But if someone expects a cat to bark, or a dog to purr, the expectations are what is wrong, not the actions of the animal. I have never been skinny dipping.
